HMMMM, signs and symbols rule the world. The so called star of David has to be proven that the star belongs to David. This country is so divided now more than ever before. I have my fears for 2015. |

This is the kind of needless madness Jonathan has brought upon us. Can we all see the depth of division and religious cynicism Jonathan has entrenched in this country?? Jonathan has caused such huge trauma to the Nigerian psyche its gonna take eons to heal!! These were things that pre-date this administration but were totally inconsequential in the scheme of things. We've had leaders of both faiths before Jonathan, NO ONE ever talked about things like these, now, they've become the only things talked about simply because we landed ourselves a president too naiive and desperate to understand that politics and religion are two volatile elements that shouldn't be mixed!! Jonathan came in and has done every single thing infuse into every Nigerian the consciousness of the difference between a Northerner and a Southerner, a Christian and a Muslim, an Igbo man and a Hausa or Yoruba man!! He has NEVER DONE ANYTHING to make people see the ties that bind them!! This is Jonathan's LEGACY!! Woe unto anyone who supports the continuation of such glaring disaster!! 1 Like 1 Share |

In a multi-religious country called Nigeria, Muslims have the RIGHT while the rest just manages the LEFT. Yet they still cry foul. Nobody heard of Muric when bokoharam was roasting christians in their churches. Till now, no mosque has been bombed on Friday Muslims are killing! Christians are dying! Muslims are crying! What a puzzle! 1 Like |

First of all, before any bigot reigns abuses, let me be clear that I am not against changing the Arabic inscriptions on our notes, since it's not our adopted language. It was put there for a purpose and this purpose has been served. However, those of you insulting Muslims should be informed that the Arabic inscriptions have NOTHING to do with Islam. Quoting Dr Nowa Omouigui, "the original reason for Arabic Inscriptions was that Frederick Lugard (who among other decorations, was the first Commander of the West African Frontier Force between 1897-99) identified Arabic as the only written indigenous language anywhere in Nigeria/West Africa, particularly among the widely spread Hausa traders across the region (see Lugard report to Parliament, 1919). Arabic inscriptions were, therefore, used as symbols, not only for currency but even on official West African Frontier Force badges, etc. This persists until today in Nigerian Army badges". Lugard's reason for the Arabic was simple; so that this large sect of people (Hausas) who could not read English language, and who used the currency as an instrument of trade could know the notes they were using, since naira was newly introduced. The Arabic you see on the notes do not represent Islamic principles, but simply mean the value of the currency in Hausa language. For example, the transcription of the inscription on the two hundred naira note is "naira dari biyu", meaning "two hundred naira". This is exactly what is inscribed in English language, nothing more. Somebody also mentioned here that Nigeria adopted Islamic architectural designs for our national buildings, referring to the Dome of the National Assembly. This only shows the depth of ignorance of some nairalanders. Even though domes are considered an achievement of the Islamic Empires, it has been widely adopted in many developed countries of the world for centuries (see the list below). Dome Of The Rock, Jerusalem, Israel Saint Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow, Russia Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), Florence, Italy United States Capitol, Washington DC, and Taj Mahal, Agra, India, which is considered one of the 7 wonders of the world I wonder why these countries have not been converted to Islam because if their choice of architecture. Only in Nigeria will you see educated youths fighting baseless fights and ignoring issues of priority. God help us! 1 Like 1 Share |

These guys should just take chill pill and stop looking for issue where there's none. Does that symbol look like the star of David? Maybe it does to them, but it certainly isn't. But like I said before, if they don't wanna spend the cash cos of it, I am offering myself to spend it on their behalf. They should just make it available in millions of naira equivalent 1 Like |

May God punish all these worshippers of Lilith the rock demon of Arabia. For years we have had that Mohammed d1k scribble all over our currency. God punish Mohammed the schizoid r@pist armed robber. Do you know why Muslim men bend down and p1ss and then wash their abuna? It is becos mohammed suffered and later died of chronic gonorrhea. Apparently, he could not bear the pain of standing and p1ssing and the ritual of washing his d1k as examplified by his useless dumb followers down the line was to wash off the puss. You don't believe me? Then ask why Muslims in the absence of water are required to do like their fake diseased mad prophet and use a wooden stick to rub their penile head. Obviously this was to scrape off any residual pus discharge. Useless religion by a theiving fake prophet from the most useless people ever to grace the earth. Israeli Nigeria Relationship at a all time high On a bright and sunny day in June, New York witnessed two solidarity rallies – one for the three Israeli teens kidnapped in Judea and Samaria, the other against terrorist group Boko Haram after it abducted 319 girls from a school in Chibok in northern Nigeria back in April. The two communities came together to pray for the safe return of both the Nigerian girls and Jewish boys to their families. Sadly it was not to be, the Israeli teens were brutally murdered by Palestinian terrorists and the Nigerian schoolgirls are still being held by the radical Islamist group. A month before the rallies, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had sent military and intelligence hardware to Nigeria to help the army in its search for the missing schoolgirls. After the abduction of the Israeli youths, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan sent a letter to Netanyahu condemning the act and demanding their immediate release. Nigeria and Israel have not always enjoyed such a healthy relationship. In the aftermath of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, relations came to an abrupt end when Nigeria’s military government cut ties with Israel to comply with a resolution passed by the Organisation of African Unity, the precursor to the African Union set up in 1963. This marked an end to what had been a productive engagement by Israel in Nigeria’s development. Until then Nigerian farmers, educators, students, academics, doctors, community workers and engineers had received training in the Jewish state, and in turn Israel sent experts to help with the development and modernisation of the Sub-Saharan state. Relations between the two countries were not formally rekindled until 1992, and the following year Nigeria set up an embassy in Israel for the first time and Israel in Abuja. Nigeria is the most heavily populated country in Africa and has the largest economy on the continent with an annual growth rate of 7.4 per cent. It is hardly surprising that Israel increasingly sees Nigeria as a viable economic and strategic partner. In 2006 the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which formalised the bilateral consultations on political issues between the two countries. Today the two countries enjoy fruitful relations, with free flowing trade, commerce and collaboration in a number of areas. The relationship has further blossomed since President Goodluck Jonathan took office in 2010 and today Nigeria is in the top 20 destinations for Israeli exports. Between 2012 and 2013, Nigeria’s exports to Israel rose from $165m to $276m. There has also been reciprocal visits by high-level government officials and exchanges of technical and professional knowledge through MASHAV, the Israeli Centre for International Cooperation. The expectation is that the Bi-lateral Air Services Agreement, signed by the two countries last October, will make it easier for Israelis to invest in Nigeria, with travel time significantly reduced between the two countries as a result of direct flights. It is also hoped that the agreement will make it easier for Nigerians to travel to Israel, and Israelis the other way. A flight to Israel from Nigeria can cost up to $2,800 but Nigerian tourists still flock to Israel in impressive numbers. According to the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria, 31,570 Nigerians visited Israel in 2010, 50,620 in 2011 and 30,000 in 2012. With Nigerian carrier Arik Air reportedly passing an Israeli security audit after the signing of the agreement, flying could about to get a whole lot easier for Nigerians. After the US, Nigeria has the highest number of pilgrims travelling to Israel annually. In 2012 and 2013 over 30,000 Christian pilgrims made the trip to Israel – and direct flights would make the journey affordable to hundreds of thousands more. In May, the head of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Kennedy Opara, said he was aiming at getting over 100,000 Nigerian pilgrims to Israel annually. The influx of pilgrims is a welcome boost to the Israeli economy, and numbers have not been affected by trigger events in the region. Israel’s former Ambassador to Nigeria Moshe Ram said that “the only steady components that go to Israel regardless of the security challenges are Nigerians.” Today, over 50 Israeli companies actively operate in Nigeria, both directly and through joint ventures, in areas such as agriculture, construction, communications, hi-tech, infrastructure, water management, education and health. In 2013, President Jonathan became the first Nigerian president to visit Israel, where he visited religious sites in Jerusalem and Nazareth as a Christian pilgrim. At a historical meeting, both President Jonathan and Israel's then-President Shimon Peres paid homage to the relationship between the two nations. According to Urial Palti, Israel’s current Ambassador to Nigeria, the trip was crucial to cementing relations between the two countries, allowing the president to strike a personal relationship with the Israeli PM. The ambassador said the relationship was so strong that Netanyahu believes he can now rely on Nigerian support at the United Nations. The Nigerian president also used his visit as an opportunity to strengthen economic relations between the two nations, and made requests for further Israeli investment in Nigerian healthcare, agriculture, electric power and supply and water management. Since 2010, Israel has committed to partnerships with Nigeria in healthcare and agricultural development. In January, Israel’s Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir and his Nigerian counterpart Dr Akinwumi Adesina signed a declaration for greater agricultural cooperation between the two nations. There are a number of Israeli corporations operating in the country, such as Motorola Israel, and the Nigerian-Israel Chamber of Commerce, based at the Israeli Embassy in Lagos, says that Nigerian businesses are also investing in Israel, with 5,000 Nigerian businesses and organisations scattered across the country. Nigerian-Israeli relations are at an all-time high and set to flourish further, but with the 2015 General Election in Nigeria approaching, what would happen if President Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party failed to get re-elected. Would a new President continue the goodwill? Would a Muslim President, from the north of Nigeria, continue the strong religious ties to Israel? With so much at stake, there are nervous onlookers in both Abuja and Jerusalem. The rally in New York showed the vulnerability of two people caught in the labyrinth of extremism with an enemy that threatens not only their values but their very existence. Israel may have not got their boys back alive but still hopes and prays that Nigeria recovers the girls safely. While it is inevitable that the threat of extremism is unlikely to fade fast it is even more pertinent for this new found solidarity and economic cooperation to flourish. Muslims consider Isreal a rogue state over the Palestine issue that is far and removed from them. The Arab league had relied on Nigeria's weight in dealing against Isreal in the UN but for some reason our northern Muslim brothers turned a blind eye on systematic genocide on their fellow black Africans in Sudan. Those Arab Sudanese beggars you see on the streets of Lagos were admitted into Nigeria during the Shagari regime. These Arabs were portrayed as those suffering at the hands of the southern Christians in Sudan which is totally not the case as we have seen in Darfur and the menacing Janjawiids militia. Today the President of Sudan has been indicted for war crimes but Sudan still operates 2 emissaries in Nigeria- one for the central Govt located in Abuja and another in Kano for the muslim caliphate. If you think religion is not at the heart of Nigeria's internal politics and middle east and Arab diplomacy then you need to wake up. 3 Likes |

Why are these people behaving like this? This is so unnecessary. It is unnecessary for Jonathan to include Jewish symbol(though I haven't paid attention to any), it ia also unnecessary for this muslim group to cry foul rather than to lobby the government. Arabic inscriptions makes it easier for northerners to identify currency(not muslim inscription because Islam is a religion while arabic is a language). The basis of the complaint should be premise on to restore an identifyable language for the illiterate northerners on our currency rather than crying christian or muslim. 2 Likes |
