The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East zone has raked in N43 million from the screening of governorship aspirants in the zone.

Each of the 43 governorship aspirants in the zone paid a mandatory N1 million screening fee to the zonal leadership before facing the Screening Committee, sitting at the PDP South-East Zonal Secretariat, Enugu, Enugu State.
All the payments were made in cash to the zonal leadership, as cheques were not accepted.

An aspirant who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimisation confirmed to Daily Independent that he paid N1 million before he was screened.

When our correspondent contacted the National Vice Chairman, South-East, Austin Akobundu, on phone for clarification, he said: “the N1 million is party dues owed by the aspirants and not screening fees.”
