UNITED States of
America Monday
described as
premature Federal
Government’s decision to
discontinue the American
military training of a Nigerian
Army battalion.
Although Nigerian military
officials refused to comment on
the cancellation of the training,
the United States Embassy
Abuja, in a statement titled ‘US
Government Regrets Nigerian
Cancellation of Military Training’
described it as “premature.”
The US training of the Nigerian
Army battalions was to enable
it imbibe its operational manual
on procedures to minimise
human rights abuses during
their activities.
The US statement read: “At the
request of the Nigerian
government, the United States
will discontinue its training of a
Nigerian Army battalion. The
first two phases of training
were conducted between April
and August 2014, and had
provided previously untrained
civilian personnel with basic
soldiering skills. Based on
mutual assessment of the
Nigerian Army and U.S.
trainers, a third iteration of
training was agreed upon with
the intent of developing the
battalion into a unit with
advanced infantry skills.
“We regret premature
termination of this training, as
it was to be the first in a larger
planned project that would
have trained additional units
with the goal of helping the
Nigerian Army build capacity to
counter Boko Haram. The U.S.
government will continue other
aspects of the extensive
bilateral security relationship,
as well as all other assistance
programs.”
The United States has been
critical of the Nigerian
military’s campaign against the
Boko Haram insurgents,
accusing it of human rights
abuses. And it based its
inability to sell weapon systems
to Nigeria on that.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to the
United States of America, Prof
Ade Adefuye had on November
10 chided the United States of
America for refusing to sell
weapons to Nigeria to
effectively contain the Boko
Haram insurgency in Northern
Nigeria, saying that the war
against the insurgents would
have been won long ago had
the US agreed to sell weapons
to Nigeria.

If you have a decent brain, you would know beggars have got no choice. A nation that can not refine its own oil, fix its own bad roads, defeat a rag tag militia and always begging (even a South Africa) for weapons is talking of insults? America has nothing to gain from Nigeria. It's Nigeria that actually needs America and it won't be long before your clueless leaders rescind this daft decision.

What bigger picture are you seeing? If after over 50 years of independence, we can't manufacture the required weapons to curtail a local rag tag insurgents, then we should be humble enough to take whatever insult we get from those who selling us their weapons. US don't need us to train their army or sell them weapons. We are the one that needs their assistance so if we are serious about getting American weapons, we have no choice than to abide by their rules.

And we don't want to abide by their rules anymore, is there any problem with that?

my fellow nigerian man what am saying is simple#fact# a baby is not made and born in a day.i personaly like the us but the point here is..they are not humble we should not be humble in return, it makes us even weaker in the eyes of other nation. This is no time for weakness..the us are more powerful us thats also a fact..but if they dont need us things would have went differently...an average nigerian should have already understood the conspiracy going on..if you dont understand. Wel thats your problem sir/ma..my people use to say"who no know no go know.

Somehow I feel the US wants Nigeria to fail. And moreso, Nigeria not endorsing gay marriage maybe one the reasons. My opinion though.
