Osun Senatorial: APC Aspirants Accuse Aregbesola Of Imposition by Ayed44: 7:26pm On Dec 04, 2014
Tension appears to be brewing in some towns in
Osun State as aspirants on the platform of the All
Progressives Congress have accused Governor Rauf
Aregbesola of upturning some of the results of the
party’s primaries.
A source close to the party told our correspondent
on Thursday that the governor had allegedly rejected
the results of some areas where his favourites did
not win.
The source said some popular aspirants, who
enjoyed the support of the governor, won but some
of them, who had been accused of lacking grassroots
support, were defeated at the modified primaries
conducted to elect APC candidates.
Another prominent leader of the party, who pleaded
not to be named, told our correspondent on
Thursday that while incumbent Senator, representing
Osun Central Senatorial District at the Senate, Prof.
Sola Adeyeye, won the ticket to go back to the Senate
for the second term.
He said a former state Governor, Isiaka Adeleke, won
in Osun West Senatorial District by defeating Senator
Husain Mustapha while Alhaji Sola Lawal, who is the
Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ogun State, defeated
Senator Jide Omoworare in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial
District.
Lawal was said to have polled 17 votes against three
votes by Omoworare but his victory was said to have
been rejected by the governor, who was said to have
preferred the serving Senator.
The modified primaries which produced Adeleke,
Adeyeye and Lawal, held at the Government House,
Osogbo.
Lawal’s supporters were said to be mobilising to
resist the alleged planned imposition immediately
they heard that the governor met with some party
leaders at the end of the primaries.
The alleged plan to deny Lawal of victory was said to
be causing temper to rise in Ile Ife, which is the base
of the two APC leaders.
Efforts to speak to Omoworare were unsuccessful as
calls put across to his telephone were not answered.
Also, the text sent to him had yet to be responded to
as of the time of filing this report.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of
the party, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, told our correspondent
on the telephone that the allegation of upturning the
result of the primaries was not correct.
He said, “All this remain in the realm of speculation.
Some people went to town with some names
claiming that they had emerged winners of the
primaries. There is no official result yet; I am not
aware of any result of any senatorial districts and I
am in the position to tell you.
“As I am talking to you, the leaders of the part are
meeting, they are meeting now; so, don’t let some
people use you to cause confusion. We will let the
public know who emerges where when the time
comes.”
