The Nigerian Army have confirmed that they
have fought back hundreds of Boko Haram terrorists who attacked the dynamite-
manufacturing town of Ashaka in Gombe
State.

The Nigerian army lost 10 men during the battle but
have reported that the terrorists lost over 70 with
scores of them sustaining serious gunshot injuries
– most of the terrorists fled the town. They also
took most of their dead partners as they ran away
in three trucks.

The army confirmed this through their twitter
handle, Director of Defence Information, Major
General Chris Olukolade said that the insurgents
attacked with a convoy of over 30 vehicles and
many motorcycles.

He wrote:“Terrorists fleeing Ashaka on Thursday
managed to retrieve three truckloads full of their
dead members following the defeat and heavy
casualty they suffered after a fierce battle with
troops in the area.

“The terrorists, who had come in large number
with heavy equipment and convoy of over 30
vehicles and a number of motor cycles, were on a
mission to take control of Ashaka town, after they
had operated in Bajoga and environs in Gombe
State.

“Troops who got wind of their intention to
overrun other towns and pursued the terrorists
while some also laid ambush for them. The
terrorists were forced to abandon the mission
when the troops proved unyielding.

Most of the
vehicles and equipment used by the terrorists for their mission were destroyed before they chose to
flee the location.

“Over 10 soldiers however died in the battle
while those who were wounded are being treated
in military hospitals. Boko Haram had invaded the Ashaka Cement
company a month ago where they stole a truck
load of dynamites used for manufacturing
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDS) and since then,
several bomb attacks in Kano, Maduguri , Yobe,
Adamawa and Bauchi have occured.

That is when fighter jets and helicopter gunships come in, pull out ur troops bombard the insurgents till the retrieve but unfortunately u still need ground troops to carry out the mopping operations, to fish out any remnant insurgent

My annoyance is that in any attack, some of the insurgents will still escape, i don't know the work of our Air fighters, or are they lacking fuel for our fighter jets and Helicopters.

All these "repelling" and "dislodging" of terrorists are happening without SOE.

I did say then that an SOE might be unnecessary.

Our military could not have been so blatantly incompetent at defending the nation's territorial integrity. Corrupted system and institutions are the real problems aggravated by a lack of will by Mr. President.
