Leaders of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna
State have endorsed former Peoples
Democratic
Party (PDP) aspirant for the central senatorial
district, Hajiya Talatu Shehu Abdullahi, as the
party’s candidate for the zone in the 2015
general elections.
Hajiya Talatu defected to the Labour Party
three
days after losing at the PDP senatorial primary
election held last week Sunday. She lost to
Senator
Ahmed Mukhtar Aruwa. However,
youths,students and the poor masses in
Kaduna central pressurized her to join the
Labour, a party that is neutral which is also
masses oriented.
Following her defection, leaders of the LP
endorsed her for the seat during a ceremony
monitored by some officials of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking at the exercise, one of the INEC
officials, Abedoh Musa, who heads the election
and political party monitoring department,
said
the commission’s role was to monitor activities
of
political parties and be sure they complied
with
laid down guidelines and the Electoral Act,
adding that parties were at liberty to have a
consensus candidate endorsed publicly.
LP chairman in the state Barrister Bello
Magaji
said the party took the decision after
considering Talatu’s electoral value, calling on
members of the party to endeavor to collect
their permanent voter cards, which he said is
the only instrument they can use to vote in
credible leaders of their choices.
In her acceptance speech, Hajiya Talatu said
that her mandate was to improve the quality of
lives of her constituents by partnering with
relevant stakeholders to address issues of
unemployment, poverty and ensure urban and
grassroots development.
similarly, the zone 2 youth leader of the labour
party kaduna, comrade Austin, urge students
especially the polytechnic students to vote for
Haj. Talatu as she have promised to fight
against the discrimination of poly graduates if
voted into power in 2015.
