Fashola was one of the 12 APC who recently declared unflinching support for the candidature of Buhari in the 2015 presidential elections. Some of us have been wondering the connection between someone like Fashola and Buhari in terms of terms of either vision, strategy, ideology or governance? Where is the convergence and divergence?

In the early 80s, Buhari cancelled the Lagos metro rail line being constructed by Jakande then with the excuse of cutting down debt. Three decades after, Fashola is building the same rail line with loan from World Bank, thereby incurring that same debt.

Fashola is a unrepentant advocate of true federalism and devolution of powers while Buhari is at best indifferent to these issues. In fact, it is like a taboo for Buhari to mention those terms. Also, in 1983 when Buhari stole power, he over-centralized power. Buhari made it a punishable offence to advocate for either true federalism, devolution of powers or return to Democratic rule.

So where is the convergence in ideas between both men? All I see are two men with divergent views on virtually all aspect of governance. Perhaps the only thing thing uniting someone like Buhari and Fashola is their tribal hatred for the man GEJ, nothing more.

That means Fashola would forgo his ideology just because of stomach infrastructure?

What a dumb question. Do you expect fashola to support GEJ, What are the ideologies of GEJ? At least fashola and buhari are all APC.

Perhaps you would make more sense with an argument that the unity is based on a mutual purpose to remove GEJ. Seeing that Buhari and Fashola are not from the same tribe, would tribal hatred then be directed only to Ijaw people? The whole "southwest people hate GEJ cause of his tribe" jingle is boring. The same southwest with exception of Osun gladly voted for him in 2011. He did not deliver. Period.

Primary school write up from a retarded OP. Let us break this down:

I say retarded because after starting on a false premise that if an executive cancels a project due to the paucity of funds at a certain time, and another embarks on the same project decades later it means their is an ideological difference.

Buhari's party has a manifesto that addresses its stand on federalism. Buhari as a candidate of the party is bound by the manifesto.

So Hausa's and Yorubas love each other but hate Ijaw people? Or Buhari and Fashola as individuals for some reason have a visceral hate for Ijaw people that unites them? They personally expressed this hatred to you, or you read of it somewhere?

Grow up. GEJ failed his voters. Period.

The policy of a president is not what moves a country forward but his vision and will to do good for his people.

Take America for example, it is quite an old democracy. going back to the eighties, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have been interchanging the presidency. From bush snr (r) to Clinton (d) and then bush jnr (r) to Obama (d). Each of these men are staunch members of their parties but what they share is a common love for their country.

If you study their policies, you'll also be shocked at the amount of continuity between them. For example, bush started the talk on immigration reform and Obama just passed an executive bill on immigration reform. Bush opened gitmo bay, Obama swore he'll close gitmo bay before he got elected, but till this very day, Guantanamo bay is still open.

I hope u are understanding my point. Whether u are conservative or liberal, or u are capitalist or socialist is not what will make you a successful leader. Is it ur love for ur country and ur ability to lead men to achieve whatever goals u set for ur country

China: socialist: successful
America: capitalist :successful

Pls go back to ur medical practice.

And who told you it was cancelled Because of paucity of funds? The funds for the project was already secured thru a loan. Buhari said he cancelled the project because of incurring more debt but we know he did that because he is a bigot. Meanwhile, the same project is being built with the same loan today amidst mounting debt. So tell me another story

Buhari: I ‘ll Create State Police
By Philip Ogunmade, 01.09.2007
THISDAY ONLINE
Former Head of State and All Nigeria Peoples Party
(ANPP) presidential candidate, Major-General
Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday promised to create
state and community Police if elected President of
Nigeria in 2007, in his determination to arrest the
rising spate of insecurity. Buhari made this pledge at
the Victoria Island home of former presidential
candidate, Dr Tunji Braithwaite in Lagos, while being
hosted by the Coalition for a New Nigeria (CNN), a
body of eight political parties which has adopted him
as the presidential candidate.
The CNN comprises Braithwaite's Nigeria Advanced
Party (NAP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP),
Progressive Action Congress (PAC), National
Conscience Party (NCP) and Democratic Peoples
Alliance (DPA) among others.
Present at the occasion were Braithwaite, Senator
Femi Okurounmu on behalf of DPA, Alhaji Balarabe
Musa who represented the PRP, Mr Femi Falana and
Dr Osagie Obayuwana of the NCP among many other
representatives.
Presenting his blue-print to the coalition, Buhari
said decentralising and localising police had become
compelling, in view of deteriorating state of insecurity
in the country.
" To arrest the tide of insecurity in the land, various
options to decentralise and localise policing, so as to
achieve neighbouhood and community control need
to be made to rural constabularies, community watch
and other forms of local and community based
supervision ," Buhari said. He also promised to
restructure the country and return Nigeria to the path
of true federalism via a bill before the National
Assembly adding that his administration would
embark on massive infrastructural development which
he said would include the revival of Lagos Metroline.

In his own address, Braithwaite said at such a time
like this, when Nigeria seems to be in chaos, the
group was compelled to adopt Buhari , because he
personifies the type of revolutionary change that
Nigeria needs .
" We took a major decision that Gen. Buhari represents
the type of drastic change that we want," Braithwaite
said, insisting that among all the contenders for the
presidency today, Buhari stands out as the best
option.
"If you can convince me of a better person with
integrity, I'll go with you. He is better today,"
Braitewaite said adding :"If there is anytime people
should stand together for a revolution, it is now. To
save democracy, there has to be revolution ," he
added.

I am glad you guys admit that Gov Fashola is one of the best brains in today's Nigeria political space, won't it be wise for ALL right-thinking Nigerians to support a cause he believes in?

Knowing fully well that he will not only play a significant role (at National level) after the elections but will most likely handle a ministerial portfolio where he will duplicate what he did in Lagos, Nation-wide...

*** And have you guys forgotten that it was Olisa Metu & GEJ that brought Fashola and made him Lagos State Governor?***
