Parents and relatives of the abducted Chibok school girls have, yesterday, said they were further shocked and disappointed with the nonchalant attitude of the federal government towards their missing children when the country’s president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan ignored the issue of the abducted girls when he was reading his 101 point acceptance speech at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) convention on Wednesday.

The parents, who spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Maiduguri, said they were more than shocked when the issue of the 219 missing schoolgirls that had been under the captivity of Boko Haram for exactly eight months now, was not considered an issue of concern by the president who was reading an all-important acceptance message during his confirmation as the sole candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2015 general elections.

“Our heart sank deeply when we listened to the president reading out his 101-point speech at the PDP convention and all through, he did not mention a single word about the missing Chibok girls and how he intends to pursue further their safe rescue”, said one Mr James Yama, a relative of one of the abducted girls.

“Now, we believe that there may be no hope for us that this government is serious about rescuing these girls at all; no one, including the president under whose custody they were kidnapped, really cares about them – all they think about now is their selfish ambition. But we know God will not abandon them the way the government is doing now”, he said.

The embittered Chibok man wondered why it has become so difficult for the federal government’s security agencies to subdue Boko Haram and possibly help rescue the girls and others that may have been held under their captivity.

“We are really disappointed with the federal government, to say the least; if not, how on earth do we live to confront the sad fact that 219 girls are taken away and for eight months, no one is giving us a hint as to where they could be found”, Yama said.

He would also have to mention the names of all the soldiers that have been killed in the war against boko haram. Are chibok girls' lives more golden than theirs?
