The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has said that it will commence an indefinite strike from January 2, 2015 following what it described as insensitivity and the failure of stakeholders to respect the last memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding financial autonomy of the judiciary.

The union said the strike will continue pending when the judiciary is free from captivity and strangulation by state governors.

The JUSUN after an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, said the action became imperative, considering the “rough terrain encountered by the union to make the governors implement the judgement of the Federal High Court delivered on 13th January, 2014 which fell on deaf ears”.

In a communiqué made available to journalists, jointly signed by the JUSUN president, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and assistant general secretary, Comrade Placidus Nnamani, the union stated that it is obvious that the state governors are deliberately disobeying and frustrating the independence of the judiciary.
