Heavy Fighting Continues In Damaturu as another bomber Kill Scores In Maiduguri by KenSaroWiwa: 6:24pm On Jan 10, 2015
More than 12 hours after members of the terror sect, Boko Haram, launched a ferocious attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, military sources said fighting still raged on between the militants and federal troops.
It is still hazy, however, to ascertain the level of casualties, but scores of the terrorists, residents and some soldiers were said to have been killed in the attack, which started around 8pm on Friday.
A military source told our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday that heavy fighting continued throughout the night as the terrorists were well prepared for the battle but met a much more combat ready federal troops.
It was learnt that Damaturu residents remained indoors even at daybreak as gunshots still boomed and explosions could be heard in some parts of the state capital.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports claimed that more than 200 Boko Haram members might have been killed as they attempted to invade Adamawa State, using the Askira-Uba, a border town between Borno and Adamawa states, as a launch pad.
“They wanted to enter Adamawa through Askira-Uba, but ran into the waiting arms of the troops which killed about 200 of them,” the source, who craved anonymity, added.

Also, Twenty persons, including a female suicide bomber, were killed in a major market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, after an attack by a suspected Boko Haram sect member on Saturday
The blast also injured 18, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, Gideon Jubrin, said.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 12.30pm at a section of the Monday market.
The market has become a target of the Boko Haram female suicide bombers as the Saturday bombing marked the third time that the market would be attacked in the last three months.
In a statement, the police spokesman said, “20 persons were killed in the attack, including the female suicide bomber, with 18 others injured at the market.”
The death toll may however be higher as aid and emergency agency workers were still busy evacuating the dead and the injured from the scene of the attack.
The spokesman for National Emergency Management Authority, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, said workers from the agency were at the market to render assistance, but declined to give the casualty figure.
It was gathered that a female suicide bomber attacked the market at about 12.30 pm Saturday.
The attack was at the Yen-Kaji area of the market where chickens are sold.
