During the dark days of military rule, especially in the 80s & 90s, Nigerians sat back and watched Northern muslim military officers pass power amongst each other.

The annulment of June 12,1993 elections presumable won by MKO Abiola (a Southern Yoruba) sort of broke the camel's back and ignited a series of events that led to democracy being restored in Nigeria by 1999.

During the June 12 struggles, championed by mostly South-western figures, an elitists core-North remained resolute in their support for the military government which many viewed as a Northern constituency.

Today, General Buhari is a major contender for the presidency, backed by an aggressive Southern support led by several South-western figures that once fought against Northern hegemony and injustice done to MKO Abiola.

It is note-worthy that General Buhari never condemned the annulment of June 12 elections, he never appealed for Abiola's release from detention, rather he opted to join Abacha's government as PTF chairman.

We all remember that in 1983 Buhari scuttled the 2nd Republic via a military coup ousting Shagari's civilian government.

Today, Buhari seeks to reap democratic dividends he never sowed.

The North created Boko Haram.

Election season is here and campaign rallies have begun. General Buhari has toured most of Southern Nigeria freely. Incumbent Jonathan commenced his Northern campaign earlier today at Sokoto with extreme security measures due to threats of violence against PDP and general insecurity in the muslim North.

Buhari's campaigned team powered by the likes of Tinubu and Amaechi has won many Southern fans over. Whether this will be enough to guarantee a victory for Buhari, only time will tell.

A victory for Buhari will surely usher Nigeria into a new era, an era that may end up becoming a return to pre-1999 status quo where a section of Nigeria truly believed it was their birth right to 'rule' the nation.

Please let them know that's not best way to win people over. A salesman can't come to me now and say "you're foolish for not having this product in your house and even more foolish for not buying from me" and expect me to reach into my pocket and buy the product

It is only one tribe/nation in NIGERIA that has d traits of BORN TO RULE MENTALITY BUT UNABLE TO DO SO DUE TO THEIR POPULATION, SIZE AND GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION. Go and read Nigeria history with open mind, those written by Nigerians and foreigners and come back here to tell me who has that traits of BORN TO RULE MENTALITY.

BORN TO RULE assertion only exist in the minds of few unintelligent Southerners; mischievous people u can call them.......

If you are truly looking for answer to this wrong assertion being spread by mischievous people, living in certain part of this country, pls answer these following questions and tell me what you think............

Who was the acting prime minister after Tafawa Balewa was killed?

Who became the first military leader/president?

In second Republic, who was the Vice president?

Who came up with Unitary system of government that was inherited by Hausas/fulanis?

How come the same peole with born to rule mentality agreed to regional government in 60s?

How come the same people agreed to share/rotate power between south and north prior to 1999 election; PDP

How come they voted for Abiola in millions despite their born to rule mentality

How come they allowed a southerner in person OBJ to rule over them for 8yrs before you southerners bleeped them up as usual..

How come the same people allowed someone from middlebelt to rule over them despite the fact that they are thousands of them who could occupy that position

How come the same people you despise so much allowed your brothers and sisters to be employed to their civil services until u started calling them names

Ikengawo:
Just yoruba people

We only beat your progenitors to the game this time around unlike 60s.

The Yorubas have turn out to be the masters of your Hausa/Fulani Masters in 21st century

Live and Deal with it

I ll really appreciate it if you can take History as one of your electives when you finally get admitted into University but before then, let me indulge you with some facts about Nigeria politics. the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) which had control of the Eastern Region (Igbo) led by Nnamdi Azikiwe
the Northern People's Congress (NPC) which had control of the Northern Region (Hausa-Fulani), led by Ahmadu Bello
the Action Group (AG) which had control of the Western Region (Yoruba), led by Obafemi Awolowo
When no party won a majority during the 1959 elections, the NPC combined with the NCNC to form a government, and when independence arrived in 1960, Abubakar Balewa was made the Prime Minister, and Nnamdi Azikiwe was appointed Governor-General.

Yoruba accepted their fate; no killing of either Hausa or Igbo in South west; Igbos were not called slaves to the Hausas/Fulanis, and Yorubas never questioned the decision of Nnamdi Azikwe to form alliance with the same Fulanis/Hausa Party you hate so much today.

In 70s, during the Second Republic, the National Party of Nigeria's (NPN) weak hold on the House of Assembly led to an alliance between the NPP and the NPN. The NPP(Igbo Party) formed another alliance with Hausa/Fulanis political party at expense of Awolowo-Yoruba party and nobody screamed blue murder ............ Yorubas accepted their fate again and moved on without resulting to Names calling
