With less than 3 weeks to the presidential elections, it has become ever more important to scrutinise the frontline runners. The antecedents of a man is a yardstick to measure what kind of leader he will be if elected to a position of power and Buhari is no exception. I'm going to list some of the evils Buhari from history and we can all judge for our selves if this man is any better than the GEJ he wishes to replace or maybe worse?

1) counter-coup 1966-:: Buhari was commissioned in 1963 and posted to Lagos a military transport officer. He was there when the first coup happend. He then participated in the counter coup 6 months later led by Murtala Mohammed and other northern officers that led to gruesome killing of over 300 Eastern officers. The actions of these 'northern bandits' led by Murtala precipitated the pogroms that led to the massacre of over 30,000 easterners all over Nigeria and when Ojukwu became tired of watching his people being killed,he asked them to return home and declared Biafra. To this day,Buhari has never talked about what he did on that day although everyone knows that him,Abacha,Babangida and Bako were fully involved. An officer who is involved in a coup plot, wether it be Nzeogwu or Buhari is a disgrace to the uniform he wears.

2) The civil war--: Depending on what side of the divide you are,Buhari and the men he led during the civil war are either war criminals or compatriots

3)Buhari is a beneficiary of military malpractice and fraud---- Buhari has held several important positions in Nigeria not because he merited it,but because of military incursion into politics and the fact that he is a northerner. Buhari has been, a military Governor,a Minister and head of state. A military coup took place each time before he assumed these important positions. In other words,Buharis claim to fame has been facilitated by military gangsterism.

4)Coupist- Buhari, an accomplished coup plotter, became head of state by overthrowing a legitimate democratically elected Government of Shehu Shagari. It is one thing to overthrow an illegal military government but another to remove a government freely chosen by the people. The same Buhari who brought down democracy is now parading him self as a 'Democrat'.

5)Administration-:: Buharis military regime was one of the worst on the African continent. Civil liberties were suspended, draconian decrees were promulgated, military brutality became the order of the day. Buhari ran Nigeria with an iron fist while the economy was collapsing. The opposition was hounded out of the country and persieved opponents and politicians were thrown into jail. The crimes of the Buhari administration are too numerous for me to mention here.

I'm not about to say the Jonathan's Government is a "model to behold" but the question is, can a man like Buhari with such bad antecedents really be worthy of the votes of Nigerians?
