INEC urges electorate to consider physically challenged people by Daniel058(m): 4:48pm On Jan 21, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged the electorate to give considerations to voters who are physically challenged during the next general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commission in Osun State, Dr. Adekunle Oladipo, said this in Osogbo on Wednesday at a workshop organised by the commission for people who are physically challenged.
He said that the youths and other able bodied voters should allow those living with disabilities to go for their accreditation first and they should also be allowed to cast their votes before others.
Oladipo said, ” The commission has put in place so many plans to ensure that the physically challenged people are not disenfranchised in compliance with section 56 of the 2010 Electoral Act.
“The physically challenged people constitute over 18 millions of the Nigerian Population based on statistics, and if we should ignore them in the election, it may cause a lot of damage to their feelings, therefore the commission says both the physically challenged people and the aged stand a chance to vote.

“The youths and other able bodied voters should allow the physically challenged to vote first. We should consider their conditions and assist them to also exercise their franchise.”
The Director of National Orientation Agency in Osun State, Dr. Lawrence Martins, appealed to politicians to stop making inflammatory statements, saying this would cause tension in the land and many voters might not turn up if they were scared.
Martins also urged parties to respect the peace pact signed by political leaders in Abuja some weeks back.
Other speakers at the workshop urged security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities. Source
