How Could The Nigerian Army Treat Buhari This Way? by OrlandoOwoh(m): 9:15pm On Jan 21, 2015
With the Nigerian Army some weeks back coming out to say it was in possession of the WASC certificate of Buhari, one would have thought that the controversy over Buhari's qualification to be President was dead. When nobody thought, the Nigerian Army yesterday said it was not in possession of his credentials. What has changed between when the Army gave the first statement and that of yesterday?
It disturbs me how a profession like the army whose junior officers and soldiers are known for the show of discipline to their senior and retired officers could treat Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari this way. This is the only man that is reputed to have headed three of the four divisions of the Nigerian Army before 1985. It is said that among officers, retired and serving, he is arguably the only to have led the nations Army in a war with Chad in the early 1980's. He had his political appointments as a Governor and a Commissioner (Minister) under the Army. He was the Secretary of the Supreme Military Council under Olusegun Obasanjo. He led the 2 Battalion during the Civil War. He was the Head of State and GOC of the Nigerian Army from 31/12/1983 - 27/08/1985.
Why did the Army make one of its finest look foolish?

I was dissapointed myself.

They allowed themselves to be used for political propaganda and nearly threw him under the bus . It is a shame

OP do you ponder why soldiers will leave a well stock armoury for shekau and boys to just breeze in and take arms and ammunitions without a single gunshot.

Do you see the video released by Boko Haram today and the huge arsenal of ammunitions JonaTAN Army left to the insurgents.

Add the walkaway in Mubi, Obi and other places by soldiers who leave massive caché of arms even if they cant carry them away, cant they destroy them before running away?

Its obvious why chad N Cameroon have decided to face Boko Haram on their own since they have seen through the fact that it is JonaTAN political army commanders that is leaving massive arms to shekau to continúe his crusade.

Wonder why USA refuse selling us arms ? nigerian army is the main supplier to Shekau now. The Americans knows it, the French knows it, the Britons knows it, the chadians knows it and the camerounians knows it. JonaTAN is destroying the North East for a sinister agenda.

The US fears that if it sells arms and helicopters to our Army, they end up in the hand of Boko Haram.

It is as simple as that. No Army will leave cache for its enemies. The border is difficult to move in ammunitions for Boko Haram to go buy in Libya as usual as Chad and Cameroon have tighten all loose ends so shekau needs new supply route, so the case is now "WHY GO ABROAD TO GET SOMETHING THEY CAN GET ON BOARD"

I have no doubt that JonaTAN's political special army within the NA are being deployed to satisfy a specific role. admiral murtala nyako said as much, he was a naval officer, he has connections within the military,

JonaTAN is out to destroy the North East and its real now. Admiral Nyako was right.

Someone didn't lay his foundation carefully years back. The cracks are coming in and if there's no back-up plan, a deafening crash will herald the end.

GEJ/ PDP, very desperate right now with the reality on ground.
I won't be surprised if they are behind the disappearance of GMB's certificate from the army. Have you wondered why the military will have record of his result and not have the copy of the certificate. How did they get his result? By word of mouth? They propably didn't think that results can always be generated by the examining body once the name, exam number and date are known. Come to think of it, GMB remembered his exam number of over 50years ago. So much for a man who they claimed can not remember his phone number.

The Army is repositioning and re-adjusting itself to meet the standards expected of a Government institution in a democracy under the rule of law. I see no wrongdoing on the part of the Army in this whole saga. Buhari is the one who dragged the Army into this mess. Buhari has been running for elections for 12years now and should have within this period approached the relevant institutions to obtain Certified True copies of his qualifications. I am talking about institutions like WAEC who will actually have his certificate if he has one.

The initial statement of the Army was a general statement or blanket statement which reflects the norm or normal practice. The Army said it has copies of certificates for all retired and serving officers. As members of the public continued to seek Buhari's record then the Army conducted a search and unfortunately discovered that Buhari had a unique situation which they had no choice but to make public.

The Army under the FOI act is bound by law to release this information.

I see no foul play here on the part of the Army. What transpired between Buhari and the Army simply reflects the times we live which unfortunately Buhari does not belong to eventhough he likes to deny this fact. we live in a different Age and the Army acted accordingly.

The army Never said they were with Buhari's certificates.. They only said they were with records of military officers..

When Buhari requested for it, (he forgot because of old age).. It was discovered that there was nothing but a mere recommendation letter in his file..

So how as the army been politicized..

APC will have to rebrand again..

I wonder what they will call it in 2019 cheesy

You begin to wonder why BH is ripping their a5$es shamefully. This is because the pot-bellied Generals have left their professional calling to sniff the butt of some hat-wearing President in Aso Rock.

Buhari has however been vindicated. The Service Chiefs and the pot-bellied Generals should Go and Die. They will never achieve one tenth of what General Muhamamad Buhari achieved as a serviceman.

Sai Buhari

They are definitely not as criminal minded as Buhari to usurp the constitution and oust a democratically elected Government. Hence they will never achieve what Buhari achieved.

Don't know if anyone else in Nigeria will!

I don't get it too. Too many questions.

Why the press conference addressing the issue?

They're not INEC, they're not PDP so why the need to address it. The role of the Army is in the case, is that of an employer. GMB should be the only one to authorize such a statement from them. The timing was too suspicious, press release right when the documents were being dispatched. Then "we don't have his certificates" they know that'll make headlines way more than all the explanations he gave later. The truth is, if the army didn't say it like than and Buhari announced the release of his documents and showed them the effect won't have been as damaging. Then stories we're hearing are telling us that particular guy wasn't supposed to hold a press conference because he had been redeployed

Check my profile...I raised n foresaw it long ago. Jonathan n his cohorts agenda to destabilize the northeast for political gains. Many nigerians thot our soldiers are empty, they're only running for their lives to avoid bn caught in btw a game of sabotage by Nigeria govt n boko haram.

America, Britain,China,UN n african union knws this fact. Jonathan is evil with mission to destroy Nigeria. Imagine FG approved license to import arms to Asari Dokubo n Tompolo wat does that tells u? I hv a frnd who work at the airport. He told me abt hw light ar habitually off at the airport wenever ammunitions are smuggles in. So Jonathan hv an agenda to divide this country.

We need Jonathan out to save this country.

GMB irresponsibly named the Army in his affidavit
Members of the public demanded info from the Army
The Army under the FOI law had no choice but to react

It still wasn't the responsibility of the army, its not a state affair. Do you think people had not been putting pressure on WAEC too? WAEC however said GMB was the only one with the authority to ask for verification.

He is surely different among his peers because I believe most of his peers would have been able to obtain a fresh certificate from WAEC within 12years!

then why did Buhari name them in his affidavit?

why was Buhari referring people to the army?

WAEC is wasting their time. They will eventually say what they know about "Muhamadu Buhari" certificate to the court when the time comes!

Which people did he refer? You know Buhari didn't speak about this certificate thing until Sunday or so?

As for naming them in the affidavit, there are two options

1) The army had it and it "disappeared"

2) He thought the army might have had it because they were his employer. He filled his credit in the application form and maybe he just assumed the army will follow up, verify his claim probably by getting a copy from WAEC. The way verification works is, GMB authorizes WAEC but it can't come to him directly they'll have to send it to the institution that needs the verification.

Why is INEC required by law to publish the credentials of all candidates if it is a private matter?

you cant take part in an election where one of the pre-requisites for taking part in that election is achieving a certain certificate or educational level and then turn around to say your credentials should be hidden away from the electorate because it is a private matter

you cant have it both ways!
