Deported Nigerian Conman Sets Up Political Party by shotster50(m): 1:32am On Dec 23, 2008 |
Sunday, December 21, 2008 By Kieron Wood A Nigerian conman who was deported from Ireland has set up a political party in Britain, and plans to field candidates in next years European elections. Andre John-Salakov has registered the PLC Party with an address in Rotterdam. According to Britains electoral commission, Salakov plans to run candidates for election in England, Scotland and Wales, as well as in the European elections. Salakov is listed as party leader, nominating officer and campaigns officer, while the treasurer is his partner, Wendy Wong. On the party website, Salakov says that the PLC Party is for the Family, for a Tolerant Society, for Law Reform, for Stronger Europe, and for British globally. Salakov had a long record of clashes with the law in England before coming to Dublin and setting up a Public Law Centre. In 1999, Southwark Crown Court in London jailed him for 30 months on 19 counts of fraud and posing as a barrister. He had tried to persuade the National Lottery to give him 10.6 million to set up a legal advice service. The prosecution said he had claimed to be a wealthy philanthropist supported by financiers in The Hague, but was actually just a tin pot operator. After his release from prison, Salakov brought more than 30 sets of legal proceedings against the British police, prison governor, prison doctors, his solicitor and a former partner. The Queens Bench Division declared him a vexatious litigant and banned him from bringing any more civil proceedings. Salakov arrived in Dublin in 2002 and set up a legal advice centre in rented offices at 15-17 Upper Abbey Street. He issued refugees with what he called a Public Law Centre Travel-ID Pass and sold shares in his company, Invest in Ireland, to asylum-seekers. Documents filed at the Companies Registration Office indicated that the company allotted dozens of €100 shares over a nine-month period, mostly to Chinese and Indian nationals. Salakov and Wong were also directors of two other Irish-registered business and management consultants: Asian Holidays and Asian Employment. Roscommon District Judge Mary Fahey ordered Salakovs arrest after he claimed to be a barrister and tried to represent an Albanian immigrant in court. He was deported and moved his Public Law Centre back to South Norwood in London. |

i really dont see why his case is that serious, granted he is an undesirable element or at best an irritant but he can hardly be likened to a criminal mastermind plotting to take over the world |
