North Will Wait Till 2019 to Field Young and Vibrant Candidate

The Northern Solidarity Movement (NSM) has said that North will wait till 2019 when it would field a young and vibrant candidate for the position of president.
The group, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Isa Abubakar, said its position was informed by the recent comments credited to spokesperson of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abduallahi to the effect that the North has endorsed General Muhammadu Buhari as the region’s candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
The group said, “We note with amusement the comments recently credited to Professor Ango Abdullahi, spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), that the North has endorsed General Muhammadu Buhari as the Northern candidate for the 2015 elections.
“For the avoidance of doubt, nothing can be farther from the truth because the North never met anywhere to endorse any candidate.
“Indeed, it is widely accepted that after the second term of President Goodluck Jonathan, the north shall produce the next president of Nigeria in 2019.
“For such a northern candidate to emerge in 2019, we are ready to wait to enable President Jonathan run his second term and pass the baton to us. The present attempt by Buhari is not only a misadventure but a guaranteed failure.”
The group further said that only Professor Abdullahi and his coterie of friends within the NEF had endorsed Buhari, stressing that “the rest of us who are clear-sighted and pragmatic northerners have made up our minds to wait until 2019 when the coast will be clear to field a younger and more vibrant candidate who will not be carrying a baggage of having been a dictator, a loser of three previous elections, certificate scandal and one whose health is suspect.
“We will choose a candidate who will be cerebral enough to know that soldiers cannot be deployed to fight economic problems; one who will match integrity with a lucid and analytical mind; and one who will know that in this century women are partners with men in national development.
“We will field a candidate who will not only sustain President Jonathan’s Agriculture Transformation Agenda, but also improve on it. Under Jonathan between 2012 and 2014, 10.5 million farmers were empowered across the Northern states, constituting 75 per cent of a total of the 14 million farmers who benefited from the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme and E-Wallet programme.
“The highest numbers of beneficiaries are from the North West with 4.2 million beneficiaries, North Central with 3.2 million and 2.9 million from the North East respectively.
“Still on agriculture, which we all know is the mainstay of the Northern economy, for the first time in our history, available statistics show that in 2013 alone 1.1 million metric tonnes of dry season rice was produced across 10 Northern states; ensuring that over 250,000 farmers and youths in those states are now profitably engaged in farming even during the dry season.”
The group continued: “Moreover, as it has been pointed out by some observers, the fact that yam farmers are said to be contributing N5 billion to the campaign efforts of a particular candidate is a testament to the fact that President Jonathan’s agricultural policies are producing positive results; and we know the bulk of yam farmers are in the North.
“In the field of Education, apart from the fact that President Jonathan established the only Federal University in Buhari’s home state of Katsina, it is also a verifiable fact that on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, President Jonathan was in Sokoto State to commission the first of over 150 purpose-built schools specifically designed to take hundreds of thousands of our children (Almajiris) off the streets to give them proper education.
“Without going into a lengthy dissertation on what President Jonathan has done for the North, we have shown that Professor Abdullahi and his NEF friends do not and can never speak for the North. We Northerners can attest to what President Jonathan has achieved in the region and we fully support him for a second term.”

We've been saying this for a long time, by 2019 am sure Ribadu would have enough hairs on his chest to contest the presidential election.

Am in support of the idea if they produce a young and dynamic candidate.

Another Top Northerner warns APC.

General Jeremiah Timbut Useni to APC, Stop ‘Deceiving’ Nigerians
By Augustine Osayande

Retired General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, on Friday hit the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) asking members of the opposition to concentrate on ‘sweeping their homes than going round deceiving Nigerians that they have the capacity of cleaning the nation.’

Useni, who is candidate of the Plateau-south senatorial seat under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stated this in Langtang north during a campaign rally to host the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer, Senator Gyang Nyam Pwajok.
“Some people are holding brooms but they cannot clean their homes. I advise them to stop deceiving us and concentrate in cleaning their homes”.

He wondered why the sweeping agents are clamoring for change of governance at all levels when it’s parading questionable characters that have nothing to offer the country.
The retired General urged the masses to think deeply to avoid making the wrong choice. He said despite the challenges the nation is facing, the PDP remains the only party to be trusted.

Been expecting this to happen soon.
The northerners are thinking well.

Now to my Yorubas folks, try and open your eyes to CHANGE. The real Change Nigeria has been yearning is already on ground, it's called transformation. Maybe the grammar is too big but I believe you guys are learned Enuf to understand that.

Throw away sentiments let's support GEJ to complete his transformation Agenda and continue in this CHANGE of government, not goin back to 1984 military style of governance.

If you believe in Change and want to progress, I believe you won't be still using the local broom APC carries about in sweeping your house floor, there are better options now.

Change to PDP and move forward, not retrogressing.

Googled "Northern Solidarity Movement" and didn't get even a single hit! grin

These "groups" spring up every single day in an election year. The comprise of 5-10 hustlers out to get what they can from party candidates before the elections are over and it seems every hustler in Nigeria wants to get a piece of that 21Billion Naira Pie in custody of the president. cheesy

Looking to form my own "group" as well and call for the arrest of GMB for rigging the AIT poll!! grin

My guys around the neighborhood have theirs. It is called Nigerian Youth Vanguard for Democracy! cheesy. Sometimes I donate transport money to them. cheesy

At last many Northerners are now becoming bolder and damning the consequences even at the risk of death.

I’ve received threats for criticising Buhari — Sheik Gumi
A prominent Nigerian Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, said Tuesday he has been threatened for not supporting Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Kaduna-based cleric raised the alarm on Tuesday in a Facebook post titled, “PDP v APC: It’s Not about Religion.”

He said his children have also been receiving calls from persons who use unknown telephone numbers to threaten them.

“People like me who had all along been critical about the government can longer speak or express personal opinion if it is not in support of Gen. Buhari,” said Shiekh Gumi.

“Just this morning around 2.30a.m., my three male children individually got threatening phone calls from a private number. People can vote for whoever they choose whether a Christian or a Muslim”

The cleric had in a separate Facebook post in October called on Mr. Buhari not to contest the 2015 presidential election for fear of crisis.

At the same time, he also advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to stand in next year’s presidential election.
Mr. Jonathan has emerged the PDP candidate while Mr. Buhari is the APC candidate.

Mr. Gumi has also recently criticized the choice of a lawyer and pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Yemi Osinbajo, as Mr. Buhari’s running mate, saying, “It’s now the Church not just Christians that have their feet engrossed in the APC.”

Reacting to Sheikh Gumi’s alarm, a Zaria-based cleric, Ahmed Ali, advised the preacher to stay off politics so that he will not derail from what he has been known for.

“Politics is for politicians while religious teachings are in the hands of clerics. Gumi should have remained on that and not start joining issues with politicians,” Mr. Ali said. “You can see that he is being labeled as an enemy by supporters of the candidates he claimed to have given advice.”

Instead of venturing into the murky political terrain, Mr. Ali advised Mr. Gumi to continue preaching to the youth to avoid any form of violence.

He advised Mr. Gumi to offer any advice he has personally to those concerned.

“You can see even if the cleric has a good intention on what he is doing, it is becoming a worrisome issue for him and even his family because he did not do it with wisdom,” Mr. Ali said.

He called on religious leaders to use their positions to preach to people to eschew violence and to also advise politicians to play politics with decorum.

Below is Mr. Gumi’s full message

PDP v APC: it’s not about religion.

Surely there is religion in politics and politics in religion. However the 2015 PDP v APC is not about religion. It’s a time bomb and God is not the author of mischief.

Security members have clamped down on APC members and took away their computers, while some irrational youth are threatening the lives of PDP members with their families in the North. PDP posters are vandalized in some places.

People like me who had been all along critical about the government dear (dare) speak or express my own personal opinion if it’s not in support of Gen. Buhari. One must be bribed or a PDP agent. Just this early morning around 2.30am my three male children individually got threatening phone calls from a private number
