APC boycotts NEDG debates –
Statement
on january 29, 2015 at 6:21 pm in
news
Facebook Share Twitter Share
The All Progressives Congress (APC)
says it will not participate in the
ongoing public debates on national
television and radio stations
organised by the Nigeria Election
Debate Group (NEDG).
Jonathan-Buhari
This is contained in a statement
issued to newsmen in Abuja and
Thursday and signed by Malam
Garba Shehu, the Director Media
and Publicity of the APC Campaign
Organisation.
The statement said it decision to
boycot the debates ”is because of
the unhidden bias and campaign of
calumny by some key organisers of
the programme against the
corporate political interest of the
party and its candidates”.
It alleged that the Nigeria Election
Debate Group (NEDG), co-ordinating
the debate, was fraught with
fundamental errors from the
outset.
The statement said the NEDG was
wearing the toga of government
and composed mainly of agencies
and allies of the incumbent PDP -
led administration.
”A salutary inspection of the
composition of the NEGD brings
into focus the BON, NTA, FRCN and
AIT, (owned by a PDP chieftain).
”Going by the avalanche of
inflammatory statements,
misinformation and blatant lies
being propagated by some of these
media against our party and
candidates contrary to the Koffi
Annan-brokered Abuja Peace
Accord, and the failure of these
aggressors to desist and apologise,
have left the APC Campaign with no
option than to steer clear of any
premeditated smear campaign that
could be inimical to our prospective
electoral success.
”The boycott by the APC should not
be seen as disrespect to Nigerian
voters, or an alibi for the party to
dodge public scrutiny.
”It must be viewed as an
honourable right not to consent to
any activity that could distract,
demean, denigrate or derail the
fast-moving train of the party.
“The APC is a party of progressive
intellectuals, genuine technocrats,
successful businessmen and
women, and most of all eminent
and courteous people of honour
who would never condescend to
the level of sadistic gutter
propaganda, all in the name of
political exigency and crass
opportunism.”
It alleged that many government-
controlled media have clipped the
wings of APC promotional
advertisements on one excuse or
the other, adding that until a court
upturned their decision recently,
the Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) had shut down
some telecom portals for soliciting
legitimate campaign funds from
members of the public for APC.
The statement said that the APC
had sent letters of complaint to the
Inspector-General of Police,
Directorate of State Security (DSS)
and others but had yet to receive
replies on the complaints.
”None of our letters of protest has
been attended to by the
authorities.
”The APC/Buhari campaign is now a
people’s movement. The more they
try to rubbish it, the more popular
we are with the populace,” it said.

Yeye dey smell,,, I was actually waiting to hear him debate Jonathan,,,,why is he running? Who cares whether PDP owns all the media houses conducting the debate? If you have something sensible to say, why run?

There are things that shouldn't be done by a presidential candidate...... Chief amongst which is '''abscond from a debate'''

They all sit in their cubicles and throw tantrums around,,,,a simple debate on national issues and they are releasing press statements! Mtchew.........

We all say we need change,,,yet we are all willing to give power back to 'PDP remixed'. There are 12other parties contesting aside the 2popular ones, if you need change, go for the underdogs.

The debate must go-ahead with or without Buhari!

There should be a podium for Buhari. It is up to him to turn up or not.

Let PDP go ahead and debate with other members of the opposition.

This will turn out to be a very fatal political mistake for APC. Although we know that Buhari probably can not stand for the length of the debate due to health reasons.

i expected this all along. Buhari is an illiterate , he cannot stand any debate anywhere, what do you want someone without wasc to go and debate? He is alresdy afraid of the negative ENGLISH he will speak to d world. He iss afaraid people will take on him for many mistakes he will make He is afraid of debating with a PHD holder. He is afraid his weak point will be exposed. Buhari cannot rule in democratic setting he is autocratic and this latest move is just one of his anticidents. The same buhari shuned oputa panel .he is now shunning NEDG . Buhari has no respevt for rule of law. Sometimes i wonder if this buhari is not fron either Chad or Niger republic like Abacha. Their character suggests. Buhari show us your certificate

THE FEAR OF GMB! After watching the hour-long documentary about General Buhari (the man behind the mask), I have realised that Buhari is the only person stopping the PDP and their cronies from continuously looting our treasury. Buhari did not jail or sentenced to death the ordinary citizens or civil servants that collect their monthly salaries. Buhari sentenced to death or imprisoned those that violated the laws at that time. Today, Buhari is not coming as a lawmaker, so he will only enforce the existing laws. The PDP have expressed that they don't like law and order that is why they are afraid of Buhari. The law today is for the ordinary citizens but reverse was the case in the days of Gen. Buhari, the mighty were not spared and that is the singular reason I want him back. The PDP have started telling us how much they love Nigeria as such they don't want it to collapse if Buhari is elected but where is the love for Nigeria they have been preaching? Most of them come into government as average citizens but they leave as billionaires, is that the "love for Nigeria" that they want us to know? Buhari came into power and left the way he came, can they challenge this? The fear of GMB is the beginning of fake propaganda, TV adverts, TV documentaries, death wishes and religious jingoism.

I guess boycotting presidential debates is a precursor to actually winning the elections...GMB just copied GEJ's style.
