During the upcoming elections there are a long list of actions that could get you in serious trouble in Nigeria.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) makes it clear on their website what you are not allowed to do and what the penalties are when you get caught for certain offences.

In case you want to make sure you stay out of trouble during the elections, here they are!

Do not apply for a ballot paper in the name of another person, whether living or dead i.e. don’t impersonate anyone.

Do not vote more than once in the election.

Do not forge any ballot paper or a mark on a ballot paper or official election form.

Do no willfully place any unauthorized paper or result in a ballot box.

Do not pay anyone to vote for a candidate or to refrain from voting for a candidate.

Do not convene a public meeting, make unauthorized official announcements or wear/carry any badge, poster, flag or symbol relating to a political party in the vicinity of a polling unit or a collation centre.

Do not act in a disorderly fashion or incite others to do so.

Do not communicate information obtained in a polling unit to another voter.

Do not attempt to vote in a constituency in which you did not register.

Do not steal or destroy election material.
