Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, says the state government is ready to provide an enabling environment for free and fair general elections in the state.
The governor, who spoke on a live radio and television programme, in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, however, urged the opposition All Progressives Congress to allow peace to reign.
He said, “As far as we are concerned in the state and even in my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, we are ready for the general elections if they are to hold today. I am assuring all that we will ensure a peaceful conduct of the polls and I am appealing to the opposition to allow peace to reign.
“The APC should also do away with undue propaganda. For instance, what they did not plead in their petition to the tribunal, they wanted to smuggle in. I have challenged them to go to court and prove their allegation of audio clip of where the military was used to rig the election of June last year.
“The victory at the Court of Appeal is for Ekiti people. Any action or propaganda is against the wish of the people. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and he has the power to deploy the military anywhere in the country.
“When the military is used in elections and APC wins, it is good. The Appeal Court only played to the gallery. The President reserves the right to deploy the military anywhere in the country.”
Fayose also said the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards was a factor in the postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said it was funny that before the postponement, Lagos had a low distribution rate while the troubled northeastern states had a high distribution rate.
