The youth alleged to be political thugs attacked convoy of the Governor of Borno State Kazim Shettima yesterday, February 22, and in Maiduguri.

The Governor escaped a Mob attack but the attackers destroyed several vehicles.

The Local, who witnessed the incidents said Shettima, who was driving around the state capital, came under attack at about 4pm when he was returning to the Government house.

Sabo Samaila, a witness said, "The Governor's convoy came under heavy attack near UTC, the campaign office of the PDP that was attack and burnt down during the APC presidential rally last week monday.

"When the Governor was passing by, most of us rushed to the road side expecting that he might throw some money for us, only for us to see that the boys in front of the UTC suddenly began to run towards the main road of Kashim Ibrahim Way, throwing stones and using clubs to smash vehicles in the convoy."

In his turn, Mallam Isa Gusau, the spokeman of the Governor, blamed ex-Governor, Ali Modu Sherif of supposedly sponsoring the attack on Shettima's convoy.

The comments read in part: "The thugs came out in a campaign office belonging to Modu Sheriff called UTC and soon after the Governor's official vehicle had passed, the thugs went after vehicle in the convoy, smashing windscreens. Soon after he was informed while the attack was happening, Shettima ordered his security details to restrain their men from using firearms or any other form of assault in order not to heighten tension in the state and compromise ongoing counter insurgency operations".

But the media Director of the PDP governorship aspirant, who is also a Media associate to Modu Sheriff. Mr Inuwa Bwala, has rejected Gusau's accusations.

He claimed that those who attacked Shettima might be one of the APC political thugs that were being owned money by the state government for the contract he gave the to attack PDP's offices during the visit of General Muhammed Buhari.

It should be noted that Maiduguri soldiers open fire on the convoy of Borno State Gov Kashim Shettima near an army garrison three weeks ago.

The unhappy mistake supposedly happened 26 January, Monday, as Shettima was on his way to visit the soldiers wounded during the weekend battles in the state.
