You are totally right! No emotions attached, it was a geo political reality that demanded some real politik. I wasn't really trying to make it look like an emotional thing, I actuaally wanted to raise another angle to the discuss. . , a fantasy scenerio that I have always mauled over; the fruits of a strategic alliance with the US/western countries in the mould of say Singarpore, Malaysia, Taiwan , Korea, Thailand etc political/economic relationship with the west that has immensely improved living standards in these countries. I understand that the need to prop up capitalist strongholds against China/communism helped foster these "friendships". But with the near NATO expansions into the UAE, Qatar, oman bahrain etc (friends of libya, friends of Syria) and the reasonable improvements in living standards in these areas vis a vis western institutional helps, maybe as alternatives to radical islam, it may not be totally a bad idea if Africanstates consider inventing and internationalising some real inter regional quagmires that may force the hands of the most powerfuls into creating "sattelite states" to counter 'whatevers', since we don't have the 'luck' of living near any ideological power house in the mould of China or Russia whose presence automatically attracts/activate western urge to prop up prosperous counter weights..
