Tears flew like the stream on Tuesday at the
burial site of Bayelsa eight prominent female
politicians and a driver who died in a fatal
accident that occurred on Valentine Day at
Ahoada.
The deceased women and the driver, Mr. Kelechi
Oyenkwuru, were buried in four graves at the
Gloryland Cemetery, Azikoro, Yenagoa, amidst
lamentation and dirge.
While the coffins containing the remains of three
deceased persons were committed to one grave,
others were buried in twos in three graves.
The deceased politicians interred on Tuesday
were three relations of the President, late
Consider Amadi, a cousin; late Elizabeth Allison-
Oguru, wife of the Secretary to Bayelsa State
Government (SSG) and late Clara Abila.
Others were – Ayakpo Otolo, Elizabeth Nisakpo,
Ginbra Pamowei, Ruby Benjamin, Acha Pere-
Kalama.
The funeral which was conducted by the state
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria
(CAN), Archbishop Isreal Eke, was coordinated
by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rear
Admiral John Jonah (rtd).
Most of the mourners were dressed in black
attire apart from the SSG, Prof. Oguru, and
members of his household who wore white
garment.
The cemetery erupted in cries and wailings
shortly after the remains were driven to the
graveside by nine ambulances.
Earlier at the special funeral service held in
honor of the deceased by the government at the
Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, President
Goodluck Jonathan lamented the loss of the
politicians.
He said the state lost eight of her best on the
Valentine Day tragedy, adding that their death
came as a rude shock to him.
Jonathan explained that the event was initially
scheduled for last Saturday but was moved at
his instance to Tuesday to enable him pay his
last respect to them.
Paying glowing tributes to the deceased,
President Jonathan said he had a personalities
relationship with almost all the women involved
in the accident.
He described the day of the incident as a black
Saturday that engulfed the entire state.

I am always saddened by avoidable losses like this. May their souls find eternal peace and may The Holy Spirit the Comforter dwell in the hearts of those left to mourn them.
Kudos to GEJ for being present.
