standupguy: Thats a good explanation but don't you think what isn't durable cant be reliable? Cos if I understand what you're saying you mean even if the engine knock d ride go still work? To me what is durable is reliable & vice-versa |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by Nobody: 2:20am On Feb 28, 2015 |
Toyota is very popular in nigeria but not dominant in all parts of nigeria. Toyota is not and can never be the most dominant brand in abuja roads. |

Blackkie: Its normal for a car manufacturer to use one component for various car models. Mercedes 3.5L V6 gasoline is found in ML350, C350, E350, S350, SLK350, CLK350, R350, GLk350. Bmw's 3.0L i6 engine was found in 330, x5 3.0, 530 series. Honda's 2.4 i4 engine was found in accord, Crv, Element. |

standupguy: Toyota's philosophy is for every segment, they've got a car to cover that need. Some folks aint concerned with sporty feel, motor moving side ways tyre spinning and creating skid/screech marks on the road. Toyota made cars for them. Folks who need such sporting feel were issued a Supra, Mr2, Gs, IS-F, LF-A (in lexus). For soccer moms Venza, highlander, RX, rav4, Nx is there, for hard core offroaders, they're issued with 4runner, FJ cruiser land cruiser, prado which are same as LX and GX for the executive guy who goes to office and back they're camry, corolla, es series, for the sports guy who travels long distance, they're issued GS series, young guys are issued IS, corolla, city guys who are conscious of fuel economy can choose yaris, agyo, prius for executives and CEOs Ls and Avalon are there to choose from etc. May I tell you LX and GS class are one of the most luxury potent offroaders and LS series is one very reliable yet prestigious flagship brand competing with S class, 7 series, phaeton, A7 xJ? Mind you, RX series is the bench mark for luxury crossovers from 1999 till date. Toyota's highlander, rav4, 4runner are very safe cars with one of the fewest fatalities recorded during crash. |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by Nobody: 5:14am On Feb 28, 2015 |
gememerald: 4runners, landcruisers, prados, fj cruisers, lexus lx, gx are highly offroad capable and can ford waters of 1000mm. Don't under estimate them. Why are international organizations not using wrangler instead landcruiser series? |

saxywale: You can't base ur research on full sized trucks alone. Those F150 come with big v8 engines. If an average Nigerian has his way he would fix a 1.4L engine in a Toyota Sequoia. That is how much we value fuel economy. Most of the cars on Nigerian roads are sedans and small SUVs not full size trucks like F150 or Silverado. Toyota Camry sells more than ford fusion in the USA, corolla sells more than focus. Also u don't make ur findings on 2014 sales. U realize most cars shipped in Nigeria are used, it would take lots of years to convince people to change their brand, just like it would take years to know if a car is reliable or not. You should make use findings based on sales over the last 10-15 years. |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by Nobody: 6:08am On Feb 28, 2015 |
abatically:I didn't base my research on f150. That's why i used total sales... Even if I am to stretch the research to 2000, ford has continually sold more vehicles than Toyota in the US...maybe because it's local like you pointed out...it may be true. I am just trying to point out the fact that it's the laws of demand and supply thats makes Toyota popular in Nigeria(Nigerians are crazy for Toyotas just like Canadian teenagers are crazy for hondas) not because it is popular in the US. I am only opposing your comments highlighted below... abatically: *Modified*. Okay, let me remove the trucks as it's distorting the figures even though tundra, a truck sold in US did not even make the top 20.. and since you said Nigerians would rather put a 1.4 engine in their favourite Toyota Sequoia, Landcruiser(v8 variant) and prado(v8 variant) suvs.... Below you have the top selling sedans in the US between the years 1999 - 2001. Ford taurus was number 3 on that list in sales for 3 years consistently and corolla number 7 consistently....Yet we have more corollas in Nigeria for that year more than the Taurus or Cavalier or civic.... I don't even think I have ever seen a Cavalier in Nigeria. That's a good reason to show that the demand for Toyota is high in Nigeria maybe for their reliability but definitely not because it sells well in the US or not because Nigerian dealers have no choice.

not only in Nigeria ,even China and other countries too.the number of Toyota in China can be shared to Nigerians 12/person at least . |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:01am On Feb 28, 2015 |
lomomike:The Bold sentence is wrong if the picture i posted from a website above is correct, the civic, cavalier and escort sold more than the corolla in 2000 and 2001. lomomike: What is being discussed is below.. abatically: saxywale: |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by abatically(m): 7:04am On Feb 28, 2015 |
saxywale: You are right , but I think u misunderstood me. My initial comment was to add to the points the op had already given, which include reliability, easy to fix, etc. Toyota cars are not the most beautiful, they are not the most powerful, they are not the most luxurious. But what they have done is make cars with everything put together at a considerable level and considerable price too. People think it is easy to bring a considerable balance to reliability, luxury, and performance at a bargain price. That is what Toyota have done and that is why they are so popular. Toyota Camry is the number one selling sedan in the USA, Nigerians don't care if it is Camry or corolla or matrix, so far it is a Toyota, they are in so yes demand plays a big part. 1 Like |

saxywale: They had to, if not they would go down like Peugeot in the coming years because the Koreans (Hyundai and KIA) are really coming at them with full force. You know the new generation KIA optima is rated more than the new Camry. So is the new Hyundai sonata too.

lomomike: In my opinion, such variety is why toyota are worldwide bestsellers- 'tailor' making a car for everyone! |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:38am On Feb 28, 2015 |
abatically:Na waoh..This Koreans are not smiling at all, they are really pushing designs to the limit.... The interior of that optima looks like something from the future. The double exhuast gives it a luxury look as well on both the sonata and optima. They are really chasing the Japanese not only in cars but electronics too. Kia and Hyundai are also changing the design for both the Sportage and ix35(tucson), these cars are already looking futuristic yet are changing the designs for 2016. 1 Like |

lomomike: I beg to differ here. The work of my organization require us to go to many rural areas..most with terrible road access. We have a couple of landcruisers in our fleet, as well as a few defenders and a Jeep wrangler. The landcruisers (2010 models) though being really comfortable for offroaders, bottom out waay too much on demanding terrain....so we usually send out the Wrangler to kind of "pave a way" so the rest of the convoy can continue in its tracks. The previous gen Land Cruisers were much better offroaders but for the buttered down present gen? The Defender and Wrangler are pretty much superior in that regard. What the present gen has going for it is its awesome capacity...it swallows most of our stuff- and thats why we have so darn many |

That thing honda vehicles do when one of front tyres acts like Its possessed and takes a turn more than the other tyre reminiscent of exorcism of Emily Rose whats up with that? And it always happens at the silliest of places! Even seen it happen once smack in the middle of third mainland bridge at the adekunle junction. I only wonder what could happen if the driver is on high speed and this happens. Thing is this is synonymous with honda cars |

maxwell530: ISUZU TIGER ISUZU TROOPER FORD EXPLORER FORD RANGER FORD F150 DODGE DURANGO V8 DODGE RAM Should I go on. Only someone who has not seen another persons farm will say his father's farm is the biggest. I use a toyota but I will always tell you, toyota is over rated in Nigeria. 1 Like |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by abatically(m): 8:39am On Feb 28, 2015 |
nurey: So if u own a construction company u would seriously use a dodge ram or ford f150 or durago as ur work trucks? Trust me u will spend ur profits fixing them. Why u no mention Chevrolet Silverado? Ford explorer vs Toyota 4runner? U are exaggerating. And we see how those ford rangers frsc uses turn out after a few years vs Toyota hilux. The ranger is just too fragile compared to a hilux. Look Toyota don't make the best cars, they don't make the best luxury, but they bring balance in all features required from a car at a considerable price and high reliability and resale value. |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by nurey(m): 8:52am On Feb 28, 2015 |
abatically: Another good fallacy, the worst cars I have seen used by gov security agents is still a toyota hilux, come and see the tacoma 2005 model year that is been used by police. Also the 1st generation prado used by police is like a coffin on wheels looks like something that was used as a stunt machine in world war 2, those agencies don't have one iota of maintenance they use vehicles like maniacs since they don't pay a dime for it. So schools that use dodge ram as school bus with V8 triton have gone bankrupt abi, abeg I have driven a V8 before and I have surpassed the naija fuel efficiency syndrome. In abeokuta, incity bus motorists now prefer ford transit diesel engine to so called hiace also look well mazda B series and their 2200 counterpart are common than hiace bus. Ford (ranger), nissan (frontier) and mitsubishi trucks are also as rugged as hilux if well taken care of and don't let me start with NISSAN PATHFINDER against the 4Runner, the lexus Rx should also watch its back because mitsubishi (ASX and outlander) and nissan/infiniti are really on its heels. |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by abatically(m): 9:05am On Feb 28, 2015 |
nurey: U still don't get it. The dude was talking about Toyota hilux, a 2.7L i4 engine config and u are bringing in dodge RAM and F150. The hilux /Tacoma is in the same class as ford ranger but the ranger is way too fragile than the hilux. Go to consumer reviews, that is where u can really get good information on how reliable they are. The ford ranger used by frsc is just a means for the govt to cut costs and embezzle money because hilux are more expensive. Even top auto sites like CNET and top speed have good things to say about the hilux/Tacoma. |

Op lay ur hands on BMW. And u will forget about toyota. |
Re: Reasons Why Toyota Cars Dominate In Nigeria by nurey(m): 9:24am On Feb 28, 2015 |
abatically: I hope you know the hilux has a V6 variant and the F150 as well. Since we weren't paramount on engine config but on types of car reason for listing those. After all reliablity is no respectiver of size or engine config. I will employ you not to add vehicles used by gov security agencies, only (army, navy, NSCDC) trucks are taken good care of as for police and road safety, their trucks won't pass for a salvaged vehicle. There are equally common on naija roads now ford ranger 2011-present and the mitsubishi L200 1 Like |

Its a mattar of choice. If it isn't German,English or italian,it isn't for me. Toyota screams "classless",its souless,no passion,no comfort. Get your hands on a mercedez benz, audi or bmw to start with, you will know what a car is. 3 Likes |
