Man is made up of spirit, soul and body, and each have their functionality (I Thessalonians 5:23). -The spirit is synonymous to the HEART. -The soul is synonymous to the MIND. -The spirit is the REAL man; Man IS a spirit, he HAS a soul (mind) and LIVES in a body. -The soul (mind) is the doorway to the spirit. -The spirit is the entity with whom God relates directly with (John 4:24). -The soul can be destroyed, only by God (Matthew 10:28). -The soul (mind) is the SEAT of thought and emotions. |

prettysheila:@ Prettysheila, the soul, mind, spirit and body are different things. The soul is immortal and reincarnates until it attains perfection, But, the spirit is in everything, living and perhaps non-living too. At transition which the uninitiated calls death the soul is liberated from the individual as the astral cord is severed. It hovers around especially the earth bound souls that enjoyed the pleasures of the flesh while on planet earth. It returns to earth again and again to until it attains perfection or Christ consciousness and becomes a living MASTER. B/c of the pleasures of the earth it difficult attaining so. I'll encourage u without sentiments to read the following books: A thousand years of yesterday and Mansions of the souls(Cosmic conception). Forget about the author. Also, look for Aquarian gospel of Jesus The Christ of the Piscean age,u'll understand more on our individual missions on earth. Hope I didn't confuse u. lafredo:hmm! Evil spirit is a term for negative entities, they aren't 'spirit', people term them that name because u can't see dem with d physical eyes unless they want u to. They are beings(souls) that work for the kal force in a more higher consciousness, these entities can be Divas,angels,demi-gods and elementals, etc, they exists in different regions or heavens. In these lower heavens beings exist in two dimensions: positive and negative, male and female, high and low because of the existence of the kal(devil)force. So that's why we have both postive and negative entities which people term as good or evil spirit. This entities are souls too, they once exist as either(human, animal or higher or lower body). Example: sango or ogun or osun(using my immediate environment example) was once a human being soon they translated and evolve into a demi-god which people are worshiping them till date, and they respond to their need. Imagine if their were in hell how will they be helping their followers till now. Achieving this stage of spirituality doesn't relate to ur religion. People who were able to achieve some level of spirituality will come and start what will call religion. |

ramalot:Mr mutually exclusive xplain ooooo. I still maintain predestination is a function of free will. even Jesus could have rejected his mission as it is written in Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. It means even Jesus had a free will. Freewill and God’s sovereignty are not opposed to each other but run parallel with one other. Imagine that you are a slave on a ship. You are chained to the deck below. It is determined that you row for the captain of this ship. You have no choice but to be chained to this ship. This is like God’s sovereignty. But even here you have freewill. You are free to row or not to row. If you do not row you choose to receive beatings by the quartermaster, but if you row, you choose not to be beaten. You might even chose to break free of the ship by escaping your chains, but God’s sovereignty is not diminished. Case closed. |

Just as God is a triune beign, Man also is triune in Nature..Remeber God breathe into man and he became a living SOUL. Now, let's go back to the days of creation when God made man. The Bible says God made man out of the dust of the earth, He practically moulded man, made all the shapes and curves, and gave man a definite shape and at that point, man was inanimate, he was without life, he was immovable AND worthy of note is that when it was time to make man, GOD said let 'US' make man....meaning God the (Father, Son and Spirit) came together and deposited into man their respective DNAs...and he became a living soul. That 'Breathe' is the SPIRIT of man while the moulded dust is his BODY, Now the SOUL is the real man, this soul is where man's intellect, his mind and emotions dwell. Let me try and break it down. Man is a SPIRIT, He has a SOUL and lives in a BODY The BODY: this is the part of man that is composed of the five senses; hear, smell, feel, sight and taste. With the body, man is able to survive or thrive in this material world, he is able to interact with his environment and relate with his likes. The body gives the soul shape, it houses the soul and make it tangible...that is one can feel his body. The SPIRIT: The spirit of man is the part of man that enables him to relate with the spiritual realm. Please note the difference here, the spirit of man is a direct opposite to the body of man. While the body of man gives him the ability to relate with his material world, his spirit gives him the ability to relate with the spiritual realm. God said those that worship must worship me in SPIRIT and in TRUTH....God was refering to the spirit of man. It is only with the spirit that one can discern what God is saying or revealing to his people. And please note, Ideally, the spirit of man and his body are always at par, they are always not on thesame page......hence, the soul. The SOUL: This is man himself...and this is the part that lives forever, unlike his body that returns to dust (Dust to Dust), this one lives forever. The soul is composed of the mind, the heart and conscience. The spirit and The body has great influence on the soul of a man, they determine the destiny of the soul, here on earth and even in eternity. I recommend you read this book titled: 'The Spiritual Man' by Watchman Nee...You will get more insight about the nature of man and how these parts are related. |

Kedam:Fallacy! These days, there are machines (robots) that can respond to your gestures and even read motives do to programmings. Does that mean that they have souls? The answer is pure no. Again, everything blood, brain etc. Are biological lives. I think the point here is that we should learn to differential between biological life(body) and spiritual life(soul). The spirit in man belongs purely to God and it marks how man is made in the image of God. Of course, the spirit dwells in the soul and the soul in turns dwells in the body of man. Animals only have biological life, nothing more! |

consider a computer system unit which has d hard disk to store information, it is powered by electricity, whatever it does when powered is stored in the hard disk for retrieval purpose ... Likewise, a man comprises of BODY(computer system unit), soul (hard disk) and spirit (electricity) . When the spirit is taken from man, he becomes lifeless but all he did while alive is stored in the soul which actually faces judgment. NB; d spirit which makes a man alive is is not a personality but a FORCE of activation of the soul, it goes back to God when man dies.... |

CONSIDER THE SOUL. You may remember that the Bible was originally written mainly in Hebrew and Greek. When writing about the soul, the Bible writers used the Hebrew word ne ′phesh or the Greek word psy·khe′. These two words occur well over 800 times in the Scriptures, and the New World Translation consistently renders them “soul.” When you examine the way “soul” or “souls” is used in the Bible, it becomes evident that this word basically refers to (1) people, (2) animals, or (3) the life that a person or an animal enjoys. Let us consider some scriptures that present these three different senses. People. “In Noah’s days . . . a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.” (1 Peter 3:20) Here the word “souls” clearly stands for people—Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. Exodus 16:16 mentions instructions given to the Israelites regarding the gathering of manna. They were told: “Pick up some of it . . . according to the number of the souls that each of you has in his tent.” So the amount of manna that was gathered was based upon the number of people in each family. Some other Biblical examples of the application of “soul” or “souls” to a person or to people are found at Genesis 46:18; Joshua 11:11; Acts 27:37; and Romans 13:1. Animals. In the Bible’s creation account, we read: “God went on to say: ‘Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.’ And God went on to say: ‘Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.’ And it came to be so.” ( Genesis 1:20, 24) In this passage, fish, domestic animals, and wild beasts are all referred to by the same word —“souls.” Birds and other animals are called souls at Genesis 9:10; Leviticus 11:46; and Numbers 31:28. Life as a person. Sometimes the word “soul” means one’s life as a person. Jehovah told Moses: “All the men who were hunting for your soul are dead.” (Exodus 4:19) What were Moses’ enemies hunting for? They were seeking to take Moses’ life. Earlier, while Rachel was giving birth to her son Benjamin, “her soul was going out (because she died).” (Genesis 35:16-19) At that time, Rachel lost her life. Consider also Jesus’ words: “I am the fine shepherd; the fine shepherd surrenders his soul in behalf of the sheep.” (John 10:11) Jesus gave his soul, or life, in behalf of mankind. In these Bible passages, the word “soul” clearly refers to life as a person. You will find more examples of this sense of “soul” at 1 Kings 17:17-23; Matthew 10:39; John 15:13; and Acts 20:10. A further study of God’s Word will show you that nowhere in the entire Bible are the terms “immortal” or “everlasting” linked with the word “soul.” Instead, the Scriptures state that a soul is mortal, meaning that it dies. (Ezekiel 18:4, 20) Therefore, the Bible calls someone who has died simply a “dead soul.”—Leviticus 21:11 |

THE “SPIRIT” IDENTIFIED Let us now consider the Bible’s use of the term “spirit.” Some people think that “spirit” is just another word for “soul.” However, that is not the case. The Bible makes clear that “spirit” and “soul” refer to two different things. How do they differ? Bible writers used the Hebrew word ru′ach or the Greek word pneu′ma when writing about the “spirit.” The Scriptures themselves indicate the meaning of those words. For instance, Psalm 104:29 states: “If you [Jehovah] take away their spirit [ru′ach], they expire, and back to their dust they go.” And James 2:26 notes that “the body without spirit [pneu′ma] is dead.” In these verses, then, “spirit” refers to that which gives life to a body. Without spirit, the body is dead. Therefore, in the Bible the word ru′ach is translated not only as “spirit” but also as “force,” or life-force. For example, concerning the Flood in Noah’s day, God said: “I am bringing the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force [ru′ach] of life is active from under the heavens.” (Genesis 6:17; 7:15, 22) “Spirit” thus refers to an invisible force (the spark of life) that animates all living creatures. The soul and the spirit are not the same. The body needs the spirit in much the same way as a radio needs electricity—in order to function. To illustrate this further, think of a portable radio. When you put batteries in a portable radio and turn it on, the electricity stored in the batteries brings the radio to life, so to speak. Without batteries, however, the radio is dead. So is another kind of radio when it is unplugged from an electric outlet. Similarly, the spirit is the force that brings our body to life. Also, like electricity, the spirit has no feeling and cannot think. It is an impersonal force. But without that spirit, or life- force, our bodies “expire, and back to their dust they go,” as the psalmist stated. Speaking about man’s death, Ecclesiastes 12:7 states: “The dust [of his body] returns to the earth just as it happened to be and the spirit itself returns to the true God who gave it.” When the spirit, or life-force, leaves the body, the body dies and returns to where it came from—the earth. Comparably, the life-force returns to where it came from—God. (Job 34:14, 15; Psalm 36:9) This does not mean that the life-force actually travels to heaven. Rather, it means that for someone who dies, any hope of future life rests with Jehovah God. His life is in God’s hands, so to speak. Only by God’s power can the spirit, or life- force, be given back so that a person may live again. How comforting it is to know that this is exactly what God will do for all of those resting in “the memorial tombs”! (John 5:28, 29) At the time of the resurrection, Jehovah will form a new body for a person sleeping in death and bring it to life by putting spirit, or life-force, in it. What a joyful day that will be! |

The soul is different from the Spirit, The Soul is the Real you,the inner man,the dweller inside the Container(body),the soul lives for ever and it's the Soul that faces Judgements(the bible says every soul that Sinnith, shall die) The Spirit is the breath of life given by God,so it returns to God when the body dies 1 Like |
