SOUTH MILWAUKEE WI. (GVE)- Muslims from Nigeria’s southwest region have refused to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan in a scheduled for tomorrow.

 The meeting which was reportedly proposed by Jonathan with a cross section of Muslim leaders in the southwest was billed to hold at Ansarudeen central Mosque Ajao Surulere, Lagos.

But sources have now claimed that except a miracle happens, the meeting will no longer take place.

The meeting, according to anonymous sources, was ‘midwifed’ by the former minister of state for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro now facing public sanctions over his inglorious role in the rigging of the last election in Ekiti state now called ‘Ekiti Gate’.

A Phone conference meeting at the instance of the Secretary General of the Supreme council for Islamic Affairs, Prof Ishaq Oloyede saw the Muslim leaders in their best, rejecting an invitation of a meeting that they believe may polarise and create discord among Muslims across geographical divide.

“The Muslim leaders argued that since their counterparts in the North especially the Emirs thought it was inexpedient for a meeting of all Muslim leaders with the president which culminated in the scuttling of an earlier meeting proposed with the entire Muslim leaders in the country, it would be a betrayal for Muslims in the southwest to now separately meet Jonathan.

“It was further discussed that the seven billion Naira he gave the Christians to motivate them to mobilise support for him has left CAN in tatters and may take a long time before the wound inflicted on the unbrella organisation for all Nigerian Christians  be healed.

“Since the man is going about distributing money that belongs to the masses would it not be immoral to take the money which Muslims condemned when a section of christendom accepted it?” the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity queried.

“And if they reject it would it not be an insult on the office of Mr. president?” he added. 

The Muslim leaders also wondered how they can trust Jonathan who when Muslims complained of marginalisation in the composition of the confab promised to address it but went back on his words when CAN president Ayo Oritsajafor said he dared not.

The leaders wondered why a president who has always ignored the plea of Muslims for fairness and justice in appointments to top political appointments and never sent invitation to meet them is now enthusiastic to meet Muslims few weeks to the election.

Chief Imam Abdurahman Ahmad the versatile chief Missioner of Ansarudeen was reportedly given the assignment of conveying to Jonathan that Muslims are not prepared to meet him.
