Power Generation Drops As Seplat Shuts Oben Gas Plant by pendy79: 9:41pm On Mar 03, 2015
The break down in electricity generation in the country has been attributed to the 10 days shut-down of the Oben Gas Plant by Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, which is a joint venture between Seplat and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The 10-day long shut-down, according to the company, will enable it to tie in its expansion unit with the existing plant which will reduce gas supply to the country’s power generating plants by 135 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCF).
Before the shut-down, power generation was said to have hovered around 3,800 megawatts due to the persistent acts of vandalism on the gas supply pipelines.

It was also said that Power generating plants consume gas at different rates and that 135mmscf per day generates an average of 528 megawatts of power.
The Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Petroleum, operators of NPDC/Seplat Joint Venture, Mr. Austin Avuru, said in a statement recently that the shutdown, which will end by March 5, will enable the company to tie in its newly installed, 2 x 75 mmscf/d unit into the company’s existing gas plant.

“Post tie-in operation, SEPLAT will have a single homogenous plant consisting of 2 by 45 MMSCF and 2 by75 MMSCF trains and will be able to deliver 240MMSCF/D WAGP (West African Gas Pipeline) specification gas post-commissioning, from the Oben node. This facility expansion and upgrades will bring the company’s overall daily gas production capacity to slightly over 300mmscf/d,” he said.
Avuru further explained that during the shutdown, Seplat’s current daily production of 135MMSCF, from Oben node will “not be available, however, the company will maintain gas availability of 60mmscf daily from its Sapele node.”
He noted that the shut-down will provide the company an opportunity to enhance its current gas delivery into the national gas grid, adding that this achievement aligns with Seplat’s short to medium term domestic gas commercialisation strategy, while facilitating greater power generation in the country.

Seplat recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministries of Petroleum Resources and Power, in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Electricity Regulatory commission (NERC) as well as NNPC, and Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Limited for gas supply.
“The company’s investment to develop its gas infrastructure buttresses our commitment to boost gas supply to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and support the Federal Government’s commitment to the reform of the Power Sector,” Avuru said

Before the shut-down, power generation was said to have hovered around 3,800 megawatts due to the persistent acts of vandalism on the gas supply pipelines

GEJ went to olorunsogo to say he was re-commissioning a new power plant and then off to omotoso and did same and next day the PDP said we were now generating 5500mws of power to gullible followers who didn't know they were being fooled by a LYING PANICKY GOVERNMENT.

GEJ met 4200mws of power and today after spending billions of dollars we are retrogressing rather than improving our power generation, today we are hovering around 3,800mws and yet he is shouting he has delivered his promise on power

God will deliver Nigeria from jonaTAN and the PDP

Where's Muazu?.... We are waiting for another press release, citing APC as the cause. Useless morons...

If all these soldiers carrying bags for obanikoro and their wife were posted to watch the pipelines we will not be talking about this. Our losses is way too much by the time you think about. Why can't we secure this pipelines we know that the same people that built it will be the same people vandalising it.

You are a BLADE LIAR

-- GEJ didn't go and commission Omotosho should recently
-- Olorunsogo 2 that he commissioned was already producing some small amount of power since last year when it was finished
-- At no time did the Gov say that we're were now generating 5500MW, but there we had the capacity to generate that much but for gas constraints Mai lyrics due to vandalism
-- GEJ did not meet 4500MW generation, but less than 2500MW when he took over from Yar'adua

By the way, maybe in your silliness or haste to propagate your hatred you didn't read the article you posted properly. Seplat temporarily shut down its One Gas plant in a pre-announced operation in order to expand the facilities and capacity in the plant so that they can supply MORE gas to their considers esp power plants. That is a very good thing

you mean you didn't read about that PDP and GEJ said they have now improved power to 5,500mw after he said he re-commissioned the fathom olorunsogo II power project.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday inaugurated the rehabilitated Unit 6 and the overhauled Unit 4 of the Egbin Power Station in Lagos, which effectively added 240 megawatts to the national grid and also restored the power plant to its full capacity of 1,320 megawatts. With the completion of the projects, the country’s power generation capacity now stands at 5,500 megawatts for the first time in history

hope I have educated your stupidity and ignorance. if the government states it is generating 5500mws but vandalism is cutting it back I don't know who has the responsibility to catch the vandals.

stop exhibiting stupidity and argue with fact behind you.

They are not ignorant of the truth, they just being foolishly and tribalistically sentimental.

When it goes up I don't benefit from it. God will destroy the cabal that is thwarting every effort for us to have steady power supply.
