I Will Stop Multiple Taxation In Lagos Markets - Jimi Agbaje by Nobody: 10:02am On Mar 04, 2015
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Tuesday promised to stop multiple taxation in markets across the state.

Agbaje said this while addressing traders at the Ladipo auto spare part market in the Mushin area of the state during his campaign visit to the area.

Governor Babatunde Fashola had in 2013 closed down the market for over a week over poor sanitary conditions.

However, while berating the Lagos State Government for its policies, the PDP candidate promised to end “the era of impunity that you have suffered in the hands of the Lagos State Government, with incessant shutting of your business places over different excuses.”

He said, “I am a businessman and I want to assure you that I know what it means for your markets to be closed down. I want to assure you that we shall reverse this and stop multiple taxations because it is against the principle of natural justice.”

The President-General of the Ladipo Central Executive Auto Dealers Association, Mr. Ikechukwu Animalu, said that traders operated under a harsh regime of levies and charges imposed by the state government and the council.

He said despite the high charges, the traders were not enjoying basic social utilities in the area.

Agbaje said that a PDP government under him would maintain the sanitation of the market, instead of blaming Ladipo businessmen for improper waste disposal.

Explaining his plans, he said, “The way it is going to work is that when Ladipo traders are closing in the evening, the cleaners would be resuming to clean up the market in preparation for the following morning’s business. That is the way it works in other places in the world. And I see no reason why we cannot achieve it here.

“It is not proper that Ladipo market does not have a toilet. We will provide toilet facilities for Ladipo and other markets in the state.”

Instead of building a good recycling plant for them, the government blames them after so much extortions

This dude lacks quality leadership skills. He has been making an unrealistic promises for a while.
* Free internet? How will NCC approve that when we 've got a lot of internet service provider.
* Cheap Land? Not in Lagos, I wonder how this will be done. Will their be a fixed price for land or he will change the land tenure system.
This man should come up with realistic blue print for Lagos state. Fasola's successor must be better than him. Ambode and Agbaje don't look like a better replacement for Fasola but I see Ambode as a better candidate than Agbaje.

I've always said this Agbaje does not possess the mental capacity to govern Lagos.

Fashola has been asking people like him to show the public any proof of review of tax laws in Lagos since 1999 without any response. Traders were not paying tax in Lagos before Tinubu what every shop owner was paying were bunch of irregular levies from local governments and affiliated touts. What has changed in Lagos is that tax laws are been implemented.

These his talks about how to maintain sanitation in Ladipo shows further his ignorance of that market, and most markets in Lagos operate. No wonder after thirty-something year his JayKay pharmacy has not grown beyond what it is despite the opportunities he's had a son of those who used to rule in the SW. More intelligent people who started at the same time with him have grown into formidable pharmaceutical concerns.

This same lack of tenable original ideas was what he showed in 2007 when he ended up embarrassing himself at the public debate concentrating on discrediting Femi Pedro (an attempt that failed woefully).

This kind of person as governor in Lagos will be a disaster for everybody, including the Igbo folks who are getting unduly hyped now.

Multiple taxation is what APC led government has stopped already in Lagos state. What was obtainable before now was all dick n harry posing as local government revenue personnels extorting businesses. This government as been able to cub that menace with proper structures in place. Vis a vis, tax payment is our civil responsibility, and we should uphold it diligently. In so doing, we can come out confidently to ask the government how it was disbursed. So far so good with Lagos state, without been biased, we can evidently feel the dividends of our taxes. It will be only fair n wise to vote AMBODE for continuity.
