All Progressives Congress (APC) Has Set The Stage For Massive Rejection In Southwest With Its Insults Against Yoruba Leaders For Endorsing President Goodluck Jonathn’s Re- Election
Amos Esele
Yoruba leaders yesterday took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) for describing them as hungry contract seekers and dishonest people because of their endorsement of President Jonathan’s re-election bid. Speaking with The UNION in separate interviews yesterday, Secretary of the Pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, Dr. Frederick Fasehun of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and elder statesman, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the Yoruba leaders describe the deriding statement signed and given to journalists on Wednesday by Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, as unfortunate and a disservice to the interests of his principals in Yorubaland. Odumakin said the decision to endorse President Jonathan was based on principles and a realistic assessment of the agenda of the two foremost presidential candidates in the March 28 poll, Jonathan and APC’s General Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “Our endorsement is a vote of our people for freedom which the national conference represents. It is quite unfortunate that Garba Shehu, a Fulani man, would think he knows what is good for the Yoruba people. And what he has said with such feudal arrogance is a disservice to his principal. There is a consensus among the Yoruba on the confab. The APC never supported the Confab. He has deeply hurt the interests of his principal. His is a blatant attempt to force feudalism and continue what the Jihadists, Alimi and Uthman Dan Fodio tried without success to force on Yorubaland. We reject it.” According to him, “Yorubaland will not be part of a colonized, feudalistic contraption. On March 28, Yoruba people will vote for their freedom by massively rejecting the reactionary elements the APC is trying to force on our people”. In his reaction, Dr. Fasehun said the choice between the two presidential candidates was a matter of who represents democracy and true federalism. “We have endorsed Jonathan. We stand to be corrected.
We have always been advocating for peoples democracy and true federalism. The Southwest has endorsed Jonathan. If anybody has a better option, they should let us know”, he said. Adebanjo, who was one of the elder statesmen that represented the Southwest at the 2014 national conference, simply dismissed as “petty”, Shehu’s statement faulting the conference as basis of the endorsement. He said: “If anybody who attended the conference said the Yoruba did not get what they took to the conference, that person is ignorant. I won’t join words with petty people on this. I leave it to people of Yorubaland to decide the fate of those who are talking.” It would be recalled that Shehu, presenting APC’s perspective, in a signed statement described Yoruba elders who endorsed Jonathan’s reelection bid as broke and did so to uplift their economy

That is the problem with these APC goons.. They believe everyone is a robot and must stand by and vote for their candidate.. Ain't we all humans with different opinions, different idiologies, different behaviour, different beliefs, etc.?

You can't expect me to tag along with you just because you feel your candidate is the change we need even though we have examined him and realised he's not that change but rather a change to the wrong part.

They say that everyone supporting PDP is either bought or a bigot, while everyone supporting APC is doing so genuinely. Which we all know is nothing but a massive lie and the reverse of the statement is what holds.

"Eni ti Ori re Tiyi. Olorun maje ki Yoruba gba Were Laye kojoba". Simply put, A Wakco? God forbids. For the Yorubas to allow a Psycho to rule over them, it will not happen. Olodumare, God of Oduduwa, of Awolowo, of Ajasin etc will never allow Buhari to rule in a democratic AYeria(Nigeria) again. God bless Nigeria. GEJ TILL 2019!!!!

It is only the blind that cannot see the plan of APC(Fulani). They believe that they own Nigeria and everything in it. look at how NLC conducted their past election during Adams Oshemiole and a northern won peacefully .Now they want to hijack the current NLC election and remain permanently the authority there and that is how it will be in the president of this nation. It is God that put GEJ there let us support him, if we foolishly dance to their tone and help them to sack GEJ, God may leave us with them and his intervention may take time if at all he will listen to us again.

What is the real interest of the Igbos with how we Yorubas decide on March 28?

You lot must have sinister motives.
Haba. It's not by force na.

I don't see Yorubas trying this hard to guilt-trip & blackmail Igbos into voting Buhari, so why the frenzy about our decision to vote for Buhari? Na wah o

In 2011 presidential election Tinubu and his defunct ACN were bought by PDP. To keep to terms of agreement Tinubu and Southwest ACN betrayed Ribadu who happened to be the party presidential candidate. Now APC thought everyone is buyable as their leaders. Hence the obsession of attacking and accusing genuine patriots of seeking favour from GEJ.

APC has one interest and that is economic gains. They want to share and amass wealth to themselves. They pushing so hard to maintain the statuo quo of 40years ago and expand their riches. They just want to be controling. If Fashola after 8years in office cannot fight corruption, sign FOI bill, build the whole roads, mono rail Lagos, employe every graduate, give massive attention to agriculture, transform Lagos to be New York in USA. If he cannot achieve these sociatal problem within 8years and at thd end people will say he is trying or he has tried, how much more a whole country like Nigeria just 4years we want to be like a develop country how realistic can that be? Cum with our deversify challenges as a country long ago. thank God Mr president have succeded in shifing us from politics to issue he has more to offer nobody should hold us to ransom in this country again. His project is visible across the 6 geo political zones only time shall take us there.

The 12 million naira they collected for attending the failed conference is still working magic. They have not told the Yoruba they purport to lead exactly what, and how Jonathan will implement the resolutions of the conference. The lack of plan, humongous looting and waste of national income is not of concern to them, since they got some crumbs anyway. Odumakin family economy was improved by 24 million Naira over the 3 months they sat for the conference.

They have not explained why Jonathan has not commenced the purported implementation by sending an executive bill for any item of the resolution to the National Assembly. He left the report to gather dust for the purpose of gathering votes, only to gather more dust once the votes are delivered

APC should lose no sweat over the endorsement, it's not worth up to 2,000 votes

I don't think it's bad cos everyone has a right to associates with whomever he/she likes. Some of them participated in the confab and they have there agenda which the APC did not supported.

I find it difficult throwing jabs at elders but when I see the likes of Pa Fasheun and co among the elders, I quickly put on my gloves. The opinions hold by these so called 'self appraised' Yoruba elders clearly do not represent the opinions of the entire Yoruba nation. In history, the Yoruba people have never been known to be anybody's stooge even though we cherish and respect the opinions of our elders. In this volatile period, I believe it will be wise if these people can just let us be and make our own decisions.
They also acknowledge that this administration has failed, the only reason why they claimed to be supporting this administration is the hope that report of the national confab will be implemented, and this is not even a certainty.
