Nigeria- The Nigerian National Petroleum Commission, NNPC yesterday said some positive optimistic things about the turn around maintenance of Nigeria's refineries . The Nation reports.

The Coordinator, Corporate Planning, and Strategy of the NNPC, Dr. Tim Okon, told the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), in Abuja while defending the budget proposal of the corporation, that the NNPC had worked out an alternative local arrangement that would enable it refine about 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily after the completion of ongoing rehabilitation.

“The refineries would work again at full capacity, we already have plans to bring them back to perform at full capacity.

He said the management considered the prices to be high and decided to look inward by inviting local contractors that are familiar with the facilities and worked with them.

He said, “Going forward, we have been able to reduce the cost of doing the TAM from $550m to $152million.

“By the first quarter of next year, all the refineries will be functioning optimally and we would be able to refine an average of 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day for local consumption.

“However, another advantage of what we are currently doing is that instead of shutting down the facilities while the TAM lasted, we will be producing even when the rehabilitation work is ongoing.

This is why its wisdom to re-elect Jonathan.....Most of his projects that will tackle most of this country's problems are at transition/construction stages. E.g power projects, Railways, oil sector, Agriculture, corruption, security, education,Roads etc

Mistakenly electing the opposition party APC will only truncate all the process and shoot ourselves in the foot.....Its all crystal clear that if APC comes into power they will use the first two yrs of their administration cancelling and probing all GEJ projects and programs just to spite him and justify their call of incompetence on GEJ administration,

They will use the 3rd yr to start bringing up ideas of how to execute their own programs while they will start the actual real work on most of the key needed projects by the beginning of the fourth yr and final yr of their first term, and most of these projects will need 3-6 yrs to build and complete thereby asking for another four yrs from nigerians to complete their programs

Wasting another four yrs which jonthan would have used to complete his own projects and deliver them to nigerians , thereby nigerians continue to suffer and wait for basic amenities and economic prosperity.

An example to buttress my point is the nigerian U17 team golden eaglets that just perform below expectation at the just concluded african championship, if we follow gullible nigerian mentatlity they are suppose to be disbanded and new players picked for the world cup without knowing that doing that will truncate a building/growing process that is suppose to blossom at the U17 worldcup or even at the next level which is U20 team.

We should use our God given sense to vote in this election without emotions and short sightedness or we will continue to run a rat race and never get things down in this country

Am tired of the FG promising everything and anything these days just for campaign reasons. Haba! We will do this, we will do that! You guys had 6 years but you were busy enjoying the status quo, because It was good, you never taught of the future if things went bad. Now it has and you think you can make things right by making promises left and right.

Seriously even a core supporter of GEJ will laugh to scorn on hearing this.

How come in the past 5yrs of this administration PDP never bothered about fixing the refineries, only to start "washing us with omo" at this election season.

Good opposition is best for democracy; see as Jona de try sit-up at all cost.

Well, I learnt there are a lot of illegal refineries in the creeks. Jona should go to Otuoke as their President and refurbish thier illegal refineries.

only an idi.ot will believe al this nonsense (that's what I call it)coming from the incumbent government. before now, all you hear when you ask about our refiniries not working is: "it's better for the refiniries to be privatised;but not to worry, they'll tell you, Dangote Refiniries will come online by 2015."

So why the sudden turnaround now? Has their policy on the necessity of privitisation of the national refiniries suddenly changed?

This people tire me I beg.

God please help us drive away this useless government and usher in a better and more caring one.

Oga shut up now now...have you seen the 2015 budget? Is there anything in it to suggest that GEJ has any good plan with 91% recurrent expenditure and a paltry 9% capital expenditure and you are here spewing nonsense.....2014 he spent 1.1trillion naira on capital projects and in 2015 he is proposing 387 billion naira on capital projects! Meaning all capital projects will automatically be abandoned if Nigeria is so unfortunate that GEJ wins!

capital budget for this yr is 700 billion naira to start with, why the ratio of the capital budget to the budget being lower dis yr as everybody know is because of fall in oil price which translate to lower revenue
either the recurrent or capital has to be reduced, and you and I know its suicide for Gej to cut salaries/recurrent expenses.....so the cut has to come from the capital budget

But the FG can raise bonds and loans to finance and complete its infrastructure capital projects as scheduled...so your argument doesn't hold water

NNPC what happened.. did Sir. Emeka Offor suddenly decide to perform Turn-Around-Maintenance he failed to do 20 years ago. Nigeria since then has not met the minimum OPEC export crude allocation barrel per day (20%) uptill date. All that noise about fastest growing economy was done while under-utilizing our OPEC quota below 20%. so all of a sudden things have changed grin grin grin grin grin
