Igbo man to become councillor in Adamawa

Mubi (Adamawa)—An Igbo man, Mr Ikechukwu Anya, has been nominated as councillor to represent Sabon-Layi Ward of Mubi North Local Government in Adamawa.






Anya, along with four others, were nominated by the chairman of the council, Mr Kevin Peter, to serve as supervisory councillors.

The screening exercise was presided over by the leader of the legislature, Mallam Hamisu Ali yesterday.

Messrs Ikechukwu Anya, Sulieman Yahaya, Mohammed Abdullahi, Lazarus Michael and Zhirkwa Momhya, were on the list forwarded to the local government legislative council for approval.

The nominees were asked to tender their party membership cards, voter’s cards, tax clearance forms, national identity card, indigene’s certificate and primary school certificate.

Answering questions before the legislators, Anya said he misplaced his party membership card and needed time to look for it.

According to him, he was born in Enugu and came to Mubi with his parents in 1979.

The chairman of the House Screening Committee, Ahmed Plaza, said nominees who could not produce the items required had been given time to do so.

Adamawa is not Hausa state. It is a state with diverse ethnic nationality, but the majority ethnic group are the Fula - Fulbe (the Hausa ppl call us Fulani). One of the special advisers to Kano state governor is Igbo, and there are many Igbo ppl all over the north. Religious crises in the north are not pretex to exterminate the Igbo population. They are crises that occur as a result of perharps I will say bad governance.

Adamawa people are originally Bafo Camerounians. Am I wrong?
