SAN FRANCISCO, March 16, (THEWILL) –
With barely two weeks to the general elections, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Adamu Mu’azu and his deputy, Chief Uche Sekondus, are presently engaged in a cold war over the chairman’s alleged refusal to part with some of the cash he received from aspirants in what informed sources described as a huge shakedown scheme allegedly perpetrated by Mu’azu to squeeze cash out of aspirants who wanted to emerge flag bearers of the party at the primaries, THEWILL can authoritatively report.

Sources close to both men told THEWILL that the cordial relations between the two leaders turned frosty when Mu’azu, who is presently out of favour with President Goodluck Jonathan, allegedly refused to give Sekondus a slice from the funds estimated by our sources to be around $200 million (N450 billion).

The bickering over the funds has also fragmented the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) with members’ loyalty divided between both leaders, THEWILL can report.

The funds were said to have been received before the December primaries of the party from mostly governorship and national assembly aspirants as well as their promoters.

It was authoritatively gathered that some governorship aspirants paid out as much as $10 million to Mu’azu who in turn allowed them handpick delegates as well as electoral officers for their primaries.

However, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has opened investigations into one of the dealings where Ndudi Elumelu, a governorship aspirant from Delta State, was allegedly made to pay about N750 million but eventually failed to clinch the party’s ticket.

THEWILL sources said the corruption in the party has spread to the presidential campaign organisation where members have been stealing funds meant for the campaign organization, a problem that has forced President Jonathan to personally supervise his uphill bid for reelection on March 28, 2015.

1. There might be some REALLY HUGE amount of money collected by Muazu from various PDP governorship, senate and other aspirants.

2. Muazu's deputy, Sekondus, might be fully aware of such huge money allegedly collected by Muazu.

3. As is typical with sharing of bounties, there might be friction between the two PDP loots sharers leaders, with one accusing the other of cornering too much for himself.

4. Now that Muazu is clearly out of favour with GEJ, with E. Clark having come out so openly to accuse him of anti-GEJ activities, the grounds were prepared for all hitherto hidden crimes of Muazu to be brought to fore, as a way of forcing him to backtrack and fall back into line.

5. The whole thing re-inforces the perception among many Nigerians that although PDP has always been mainly about sharing stolen money, GEJ has undoubtedly raised the stakes and added a new dimension to it by 'Dollarizing' the shared money, thereby making the competition for the easy loots even more fierce and unhealthy among hungry foxes and greedy hyenas within the party.

6. Since most members of the PDP at the grassroots are not completely oblivious of this scramble for personal shares at the top of their party, it is no surprise that even the ordinary supporters of PDP themselves always demand cash payments from their party officials.

7. But as GEJ would come to realize soon, you can buy endorsements from 'leaders' of various religious and regional groups but that does not automatically give you popular support among the ordinary members of those groups.

No surprises here!

This has been the practice across major parties since beginning of time. The only addition is the introduction of dollars rather than naira to settle your way to land the ticket.

The unfortunate thing in this whole charade is that the top echelon of these parties are actively involved in it and this only compounds our problems as a nation since you do not expect those who have bought their way to lay back without recouping their "investment".

This is the more reason we need a complete break from these known looters who have corruptly enriched themselves and turn to people of high moral standards and integrity represented by Buhari and Osinbajo. There is a good chance that if we have a new leadership with GMB/PYO, we will start to retrace our steps to achieving a semblance of a sane society.
