THE SYMBOL OF NIGERIAN UNITY.

Unity and faith
Peace and progress

"One nation bound in freedom peace and unity"

This what the last stanza of national anthem portrayed.

The national symbols of Nigeria represent the varied customary beliefs of the country that has been a part of its rich heritage since many years.

The question remain are the country unified today politically or otherwise?

Faith- the trust and the believe to respect our different believes. What is the inclination today in our political culture, religious sentiments, sectionalism or Islamization or christianization of the country? Does this faith serve the purposes as amended in 1978?

Chinua Achebe (1984) political science on unity and faith. The most commonly enunciated Nigeria ideal is unity so important it is to us that it stand inscribed.....

Can someone explain to me this Motto; unity and faith, peace and progress.

To me if there is unity and faith then peace will prevail and the country will make progress politically.

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in a dressing united Nation General Assembly in 1960 has this to say;

"political independence is totally inadequate itself if it is not accompanied by stability and economic security, and if there is not genuine personal liberty, with freedom to express one’s views and to profess whatever faith one desires"

True to type is what today reflecting to many happenings within the country and to some extent the country is divided politically.

Peace and Progress.

The need for inter religious harmony for peace and progress in Nigeria. Religious inclination in politics especially by the electorate is setting back the political development of the country peace and progress.

The insurgency and the ethnic cleansing over the years have set back the motto of Nigeria. Since independence Nigeria is faced up with many problems right from the first military coup in 1966 which lead to assassination of many prominent Nigerians and independence activist. The biafran war in 1967 cut off the motto not until 1970 when the war ends.

The respect to the motto must be preach and continue to be inculcated in the minds of Nigerians these will definitely progress the country peacefully, economically and faithfully. We must respect each other believes and believe to fight any problem that comes our way.

The issue of Boko Haram which is burning issue today is nevertheless a political issue but yet tend to be propagated politically as other side of the story the case today is more than just a Nigerian Problems became an international problem.

It is bitter to remember the lives that perish in many attacks turning others into widows and orphans, many tows and villages are displaced. We must sympathies with victims and casualties of Boko Haram insurgency and other ethnics clashes. We must accept the destiny of being one country because we are divinely attuned to it with different culture different religion. We should therefore keep our self together with unity and Faith, peace and progress.

Long live Nigeria.
