Whatever you do on Saturday, remember, it takes
a Buhari to make a change. It’s not just a slogan;
it’s a historical fact that is easily lost on those who
think that this process is about replacing one
region or religion with another. It’s much more
than that. Buhari or the fear of him, has thrown our
rulers into uncommon dynamism. Old fault lines are
widening, friendships are breaking and where
there was apathy, inertia and arrogance, it has
been replaced by a pyrrhic humility. One shudders
to ask - if, for some curious reason, Buhari is no
longer a factor would governance return to
soporific somnambulism?

The five-year era of - I don’t give a damn has
changed so much since Buhari became an
electoral factor. His emergence altered the tempo
of campaigns and governance for momentary
good. For five years Boko Haram sanguinely
rampaged through the northeast, calls to tame the
monster fell on deaf ears. The president confessed
that it was not Buhari who underfunded the
military and weakened his capacity to stop the
bloodshed, but that he under-estimated the
insurgency - sleeping on duty. It took Malala
Yousufzai to convince our president to even meet
grieving parents. That was before Buhari became a
candidate. They had thought he would slip back
into retirement giving them an easy victory lap.
They even gave him a Millennial Award to shut him
down.

Buhari’s candidature changed the momentum.
Today, President Jones has visited the northeast a
record four times within two months. It takes a
Buhari to turn a dour president into a gallant
commander-in-chief of. Not only did he visit,
Idriss Deby remembered how Buhari invaded Chad
chasing rebels that he unilaterally marched his men
into Naija territory. That would not have happened
without a Buhari in the fray. Fear of Buhari has
earned our gallant troops their needed weapons.
Not even the Occupy Movement could wring ten
kobo change from pump price hike. Buhari got ten
kobo reduction without carrying placard. What
more, he forced a 50% electricity tariff reduction
even from the private hands who raised N21
million for campaigns; even long forgotten areas
got electricity for hours of late - people won’t
forget that.

In 2011, nothing but advanced questions could’ve
forced President Jones to a national debate. This
year once Buhari refused debate with discredited
NTA, the defender wanted one. Buhari has made a
debater out of someone who has difficulties
reading even from a script - one giant leap for
mankind.

Stealing is not corruption - remember the line?
Yes. But with Buhari consistently talking about
eradicating corruption, out pops the parable of
the goats and yam and promises to address the
issue. Lesson - if Buhari is talking about it, the
ruining class must make it an issue.
The Yorubas have never had it so bad. Their
demand for restructuring was based on the real
transformation of Lagos by Tinubu/Fashola. It is
proof that things can be run differently. Today, the
Yoruba are beautiful brides whom President Jones
woos with promises of juicy ministerial portfolio.
He even moved to Marina so he could be near
influential Yoruba Obas for prayers. Why? Because
twice, Buhari has picked a deputy from
Yorubaland - if Yorubaland is important to Buhari,
it must be an issue for President Jones. It takes a
Buhari.

This regime is famous for setting up committees to
silence opponents then keeping their reports to
gather dust. A confab in a nation with an overpaid
and under-utilized legislature is pure wastage. It
cannot override the legislature and its
recommendations have no force of law. President
Jones went ahead with it anyway, spending the
billions that could have helped ASUU, ASUP and
COESU return to classes, or buy a fleet of buses
for transportation or build urban shelter. Its
committee report had gathered dust already, but
with Buhari in the race, there is an endorsement;
it’s out of the trashcan - for now. Even siblings of
the Immigration tragedy got money and job offers
although the chief murderer, Abba Moro is
retained. It takes a Buhari.

Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo and until lately,
Rev.Fr Mbaka and others have seen the
presidential convoy and perhaps the
accompanying dollars; now the council of Ulama
in the west is endorsing candidates. They are not
alone; the associations of witches and witchcraft
and confraternities have endorsed the born-again
president. Atiku Abubakar is a king in any political
chess game. He is a powerhouse acknowledged by
the Wizard of Ota. Get Atiku on your side and you
have a political mileage. Thanks to Buhari,
President Jones traced Atiku home at 3:00 a.m.
Imagine the pressure that made a Judas of
Amaechi’s deputy of many years!
Thus far Buhari has not succeeded in getting the
ruining party to embrace the digital electronic
voting machine, but with America knowing and
approving, they have no choice. So, if you’re
voting status quo this Saturday, ask yourself -
what happens in the next four years when there is
no fear of Buhari as the beginning of feigned
dynamism?
