Tinubu Call On Nigerians To Perform Their Patriotic Right By Voting by Nwoguphillip: 9:53pm On Mar 27, 2015
ON THIS DAY, VOTE FOR OUR DEMOCRACY
-Bola Tinubu calls on Nigerians to perform their patriotic duty by voting.
-Calls on the Military not to depart from the fine tradition of allegiance to the country and not an individual
-Salutes former Heads of State, Abdulsalami, Babangida, Shagari for guiding this process to the day of elections
-Do not be afraid, he counters Voters.

Democracy extends itself to our nation. This time, on this day, let us fully embrace it. What we do today shall decide whether we secure our democracy or mock it. We must not waste the precious chance. When the history of our nation is told, let it be said it was this election that allowed the nation to make its great turn onto the path of full democracy and good governance.

In this vein, we must applaud many of our former leaders. During this tense time, they have demonstrated impartial statesmanship and a keen understanding of what lies at stake. Former Head of State Abdulsalaam has demonstrated upmost patriotism throughout this electoral season. His work in forging the second Peace Accord on March 26 between General BuharI and President Jonathan is an example of his fine contribution. Likewise, former Heads of State Babangida and Obasanjo and other leading figures have make courageous, impartial statements calling for free and fair elections that would forever consecrate the presence of democracy in our beloved land.

We must follow the call of these statesmen. March 28 is supposed to be a great and happy day for Nigeria. The right to vote, to express your opinion and select the leaders of your choice are things we must cherish and not fear. Be not afraid of the good thing that has come to us.

For the average man and woman, this is your day. It is your moment to join your voice to the collective chorus of those like you who, together, shall determine the path you want this nation to go and the person you would have lead us. When you go to the polling booth, vote your conscience, vote your heart, and vote for your vision of what Nigeria should be. Do not be discouraged by fear of insecurity or violence. These are all rumors generated by those who want to keep you huddled behind closed doors. That way they may prevent you from opening your destiny as you deem fit.

Vote and encourage everyone you know to do cast their vote. Let the chance to determine and redirect your future inspire you to do just that: vote for a better destiny for yourselves and your nation.

To those who will conduct this election, we thank you for accepting this vital task. You are the unsung heroes in our journey to democracy. From the staff at the individual polling unit, to the ward, to the local government, to the state and to the national levels, you have been entrusted as the custodians of the electoral process and of our democracy on this fateful day. We hold the highest hope that you will rightly fulfill the sacred task given you. May you carry out your duties in a fair and impartial manner. Every valid vote tendered must count and every ill attempt to distort the process or rig the vote shall be stopped and not allowed to stand.

The police have the duty to provide security on this day. This is an essential task. Please do your best to ensure everyone polling booth is secure and peaceful. Create an atmosphere of liberty and peace so that all who are eligible to vote feel free to do so without intimidation or retribution.

There has been much said about the position of the army and other security agencies in this process. The final word must be that of the constitution and Electoral Act. Our laws state the army shall have no role in providing electoral security. Any attempt to inject the military into the process is an illegality undermining the fairness of the elections.

Our army has a fine tradition. Its primary mandate is to protect the nation from foreign threats and, more recently, to defeat a terrible and violent domestic menace in Boko Haram. However, the army has no role in policing the electoral process. It is ill suited for that mission. Such an assignment would place it in disrepute.

We ask that the army -- from the esteemed General staff to the most recent enlisted recruit -- to obey the law and resultant court orders. Obey the oath you swore to uphold the constitution. Do not allow anyone to give you an order or otherwise entice you to break the law by improperly interfering in this election. Honor the law, honor your institution and honor the nation. If you do so, history and even Honor itself will vindicate you in the eyes of your fellow citizens.

We have come to the intersection of destiny and fate. We dare not renege on our sweetest promises to ourselves to do our utmost to forge a better nation grounded in the tenets of democratic fair play and justice for all. We dare not walk back into the dark night when the light of a new day casts its first beam at our feet.
-Bola Tinubu

Nigerians must utilize this perfect moment to vote the change they have craved for in a long while... Nigeria can be great again, provided voters resist the antics of the ruling party.
