Taraba State Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Victor Bala Kona was disenfranchised in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections as he could not find his name on INEC list when he went to vote at his Sarkin Dutse polling unit in Ardo Kola local government.
Reports from Taraba revealed that Kona was shocked when he presented his PVC for accreditation only to discover that his name was not on the list.
The State PDP Chairman lamented that his complaint could not be addressed as the Taraba State INEC Resident Electoral Officer (REC) told him that the error was of technical and that the issue would be addressed after the presidential and National Assembly.
He however advised his supporters, some of whom were also disenfranchised because their names could not be found in the register, to remain calm as the issue would be taken to the higher authority for rectification.
INEC Presiding Officer in Sarkin Dutse , Mallam Adamu Yakubu , who attended to Kona explained that out of a total number of 1,156 registered voters in the unit, only 315 names were accredited to vote and that the remaining 750 names of voters could not be found on the list.
He confirmed that most of the 750 persons had their PVCs but since their names were not on the list even when they were accredited they could not be allowed to vote.
