2015 Election Lesson.... by dontega(m): 3:26pm On Apr 01, 2015 |
This election has taught me a lot of very deep personal and emotional lessons. But beyond that, some people have been quick to call Goodluck's defeat a disgrace. Some say he has destroyed the PDP. But I say they are ignorant of Nigeria's configuration and political history. As far as Nigeria is concerned, the north will continue to determine who governs Nigeria. Ask Obasanjo and he will tell you that Alliance For Democracy (AD) was the dominant party in yoruba land when he became President under PDPs umbrella. But it was the North that made him president. But for Goodluck's inroad to the NorthCentral in 2011, he wouldn't have been President. The same north that brought the PDP to power in 1999 is the north that has brought APC to power in 2015. And fact is that apart from those who have reasons why they didn't want GEJ and the PDP, if General Sani Abacha resurrects to contest elections against a southerner, he will still get the kind of massive support and votes buhari got from the north. It's not just at the federal level. In Kogi, the Igala's of Kogi East determines who becomes governor of that state and they have remained in power like forever. In kaduna, the people of northern kaduna determines who governs that state and the same luck that made Goodluck Jonathan president is what made Late Patrick Yakowa, the first governor from southern Kaduna after Namadi sambo was picked as Vice President by GEJ. In Benue, the Tivs determines who becomes governor and that's is why the idoma's are clamoring for Gurara state. In Borno, if you are not kanuri, I doubt if you can be LG chairman. I can go on and on. So as much as majority of NIGERIANS wanted change, it will be ignoble to vilify GEJ for PDPs fall. The South East did very well supporting GEJ and the Niger-Deltans owe them a lot. As long as we remain one Nigeria, they will be supported likewise whenever the need arises. Ndigbo have shown Jonathan much love by standing by him to the last. if we had got even a quarter of that love from the ijaws and other waterside people during the Biafra war then the whole of our regions would have been liberated from northern backwardness. Having said that, I thank ndigbo for proving once more to the south south that in Nigeria, they've got only one big brother who loved them more than they loved themselves. I hope that this love will from henceforth be returned from generation to generation. But they will still need the North just as this years elections have shown. Be that as it may, I still love you Goodluck Jonathan. You have taught me another class of humility; How to smile in the face of challenges and opposition; How to be a winner; How to rise from grass to grace; How to be a Goodluck charm; How to be calm in the eye of the storm; How not to give up because you never did; How to accept criticism; How to smile with even with the enemy; How not to allow your background determine your future; How to accept defeat no matter how Painful and many more. Your best wishes for this country was never hidden, you were not as forceful as Nigerians wished because of our years of military rule. We lacked patience to see your policies come into tangible fruition. I will always maintain that you are Nigeria's best president. We were few months away from implementing the confab report that would have enthroned true federalism which would have set us on the path of recovery and greatness. I am certain posterity will judge you fairly. Through all the insults, you never reacted. You gave all freedom like we've never seen before. IF WE MUST PRACTICE DEMOCRACY, YOU ARE THE TEMPLATE. I don't think you lost this election, you are just a victim of a sectional majority and Nigeria actually lost you instead. I know we Nigerians are an impatient lot with unachievable high hopes for the incoming government. In few months time, after our hopes have been met with reality. ... then we shall sing your praises. Whenever the history of this country will be written, your section will be in gold. Go with your head up high, even your opponents would not have taken the step you took on this journey. You remain my HERO. May God remain with you post May 29 my dear Amiable President. And to GMB, i say Congratulation Sir. One 9ja we all Pray for and may u really Bring The Change u av for us. God bless NIGERIA |
