just collected my resident permit card today and will be visiting nigeria august after 2yrs leaving my nation and a topic came my mind and will like to share with my fellow NL who have ppl overseas.

though i may not include some of the reasons but I am 100% sure of my own but you can include yours if you have.

jobless without a stable job:- yes, how can someone who is not eating 3 square meals remember ppl at home? this month he/she works and next month no job again and house rent ,water ,light etc are there to balance up.

Fraudster:- forget this kind of ppl and loose hope in them because they will never come home due to their crimes been committed within the country and he can't even near the airport if he is a wanted criminal. Abroad no be 9ja o ones they have your biometrics ,even if you bleach from black to green dey will get u.

Prodigal lifestyle ppl:- before you make up your mind living in abroad ,u must open your number 6 (brain) because life is too sweet abroad and this group of ppl spend there savings clubbing, partying, smoking, drinking and prostituting just frgt this kind of ppl dey can never remember home even if you tell them there parents are abt to die.

Illegal migrants:- 78% of Nigerians living abroad are living illegal ,majority came with 3weeks, 2month, 1month visas but will not have the chance to renew there visas until they finally meet up with the country requirements and mind you if you don't make the steps early enough, just forget visiting police station if you dont want to be deported. so this are the kind of ppl that spend more than 10years without visiting home.

The marriage scammers:- these group of ppl will never visit home because they have forcefully marry a citizen of the country dey reside just to get residence permit. oyinbo wife no be like nja o if you mention say u wan go your country ehh be ready to spend some weeks in jail cheesy

that's all I can write for now due to my experience and what I am seeing with my two eyes.

may God crown our hustle (Amen)

Crap,so after 2 yrs U just get your resident permit , in the Moon?

Very funny! grin grin I don't believe that 75% Nigerians don't have at least green card. You can't do anything without being legal. And 10 years without going home The only reason those I know were afraid to go home last year is insecurity, but I trust Buhari to change that.

This nairaland is just full of people who like to talk nonsense with so much authority.
You don't even know what is going on in the next state in your own country Nigeria but will claim to know all about another man's land when they themselves can't even claim such knowledge.

You don't get it! People don't have to save for tickets, it can always be put on credit card and be paid off as they are able. People are genuinely afraid of being kidnapped. Buhari will turn it around though!

well like I always say to people, Abroad is for the young hustlers, don't come abroad when you are above 29 years of age, thats wrong timing.Abroad is an Avenue to get initial capital for one to set up in life,I was lucky enough to travel just at 23 years of age not many people are that lucky some came when they where 35, papers will remove 10 years from their life except the pros. add 12 years to your age at arrival, grand pa don come be that.

Better stay. It is a thing of choice. When u come u will see u are 45yrs behind.came back and started working in good place in naija but I saw my students 4yrs below my at university doing far better than imaginable. The elite here do not regard those who leave overseas as anything but hungry people

Ignorance is a disease..........Just don't say things that you don't know.......Your post is mis-guided...........Even if you have all your papers,Nigeria is still a place where you will think very well before going......Most people are smarter than before and traveling to them now is about cost and you just don't make a trip without consideration of serious intentions........Gone are the days of communication problem as you can now contact anyone at anytime........Hopefully Buhari will clean up Nigeria from Bokoharam and it could make it easier to come to Nigeria just for the fun of it........And most important reason is lack of adequate infrastructure which is hard to find in Nigeria.....No light and you want me to come home anyhow..........

You should speak for yourself........I sense some envy from the judgement of Nigerians about those in abroad........You can't say that Nigerians abroad are hungry people because there are so many categories of nigerians immigrant and many are successful and some are unlucky but majority are in the middle......Thesame set of people sending annual remittance of 21Billion dollars to Nigeria are hungry people?..........Infact the topic of this post is bias and lack content of reality...........Too many success stories and I am one of them......But is true that there is no place like home which definitely has nothing to do with money............

De op jst said hIs mind frm his own point of view and I dnt knw y some pple here ar busting there brains. Wen de op said ABROAD I believe he is referring to evry part Of de world and nt jst de US. Or na only US be abroad? I strongly believe dat once u ar out of Nigeria den u ar in abroad, and dis abroad includes Malaysia, Japan, china,Senegal, tunisia, USA,Iran,Iraq.. Etc....! De op dd nt state de country he is staying and some pple here have jst concluded he is in de US. For de guy dat claimed he is burn in de UK and brought up in Nigeria... Tank ur God. For ur information, evrybody is nt born like dat. De op is right..75% traveled illegally.

OP I'm sure you mingle with the wrong set of people. How did you arrive at 78% illegal immigrants abroad?

I know lots of professionals across various spheres working and running businesses that when you see them you're proud of being Nigerian. And they visit Nigeria quite often. Do you know the number of flights that leave for Nigeria daily from London and vice versa?

I personally visit Nigeria at least twice yearly cos I have a running business back home and also family there. Besides, all the reasons you gave are basically negative and could stem from the fact that either you're in the wrong circle which you need to change or you're unfortunate in the choice of people you meet.

And please don't say 78% when you don't know. So you met them and they told you they're illegal immigrants

The OP is definitely in the wrong circle. I am a Nigerian professional in the US, I visit home regularly. I was in Nigeria in Feb for 2 weeks and then came back again for one week in March again. I enjoy visiting home when ever time allows. OP does not realize that there are 3 direct flights everyday from the U.S. to Nigeria daily, carrying at least 400 passengers daily, to and fro.
Again it is a reflection of his experience I presume so.

You said 'work Jan to Nov, buy your ticket and you will have extra for pocket money". So what does that mean? Some people don't even have to stay for 11 months before going home. I have a friend that goes to Nigeria 3 times a year and told me that she announced when she got home that "they(the kidnappers)would lose if they attempt to abduct her, cos she has no money and America doesn't pay ransome" The fear is real, friend. You don't know anything about the system, if you do, you would have known that it's different stroke for different people. In all my years, I have never thought of how people should go home and when, so I don't quite get your point. but one thing I do know is that you are very wrong for throwing figures in the air, and that makes you come across as very irresponsible. You just got here! How many people do you actually know that would tell you their legal status? I for one just know about my close friends. I can't really say much about security in the US cos, I work and live in the city, all I have between my home and job is less than 15mins. I go out with a company at nights and have never been robbed or attacked.
