An Open Letter To Igbos By Rochas Okorocha

"A time of reflection for the Igbos?– Okorocha Speaks Again

Dear Igbo Compatriots:

One of the closest Igbo man to the President Elect is Dr Chris Ngige Onwa, a Senator who was defeated in the Senatorial Election.

See how bad Igbos are at strategizing? They couldn't override a pathological hatred for General Buhari to make a hedge bet and return this man to the Senate, to enhance his chances at Senate President, incase General Buhari wins, which he did.

Instead folks played tribal and religious politics to the tilt as drunken sailors, and failed the man and the chance to make history as Senate President.

That's what happens when emotions trips common sense and folks succumb to hustlers like Peter Obi and Arthur Eze, Mba (capital oil) hustlers after their own interests instead of the masses they pretend to serve.

I urged caution, I pleaded that we were making a huge mistake to hitch our wagon on Jonathan who wasn't going to win. And predictably he lost, so also our chance in the new administration.

I hate to gloat.

But maybe, maybe, only maybe he gets a good ministerial appointment, but nothing beats being Senate President.

Igbos are very bad at politics.

Fifty years after independence, we are yet to produce a president when others have taken multiple turns. Our answer? Blame others! If you only Hausas didn't do this or Yorubas didn't do that, perhaps the god of politics will bless our lot.

And sadly it won't stop until we learn to coexist with others instead of our 'better than thou' attitude when dealing with the Hausas and Yorubas. We are not better than anyone, these folks we thumb our noses at, are God's creatures like us.

We don't like the Hausas and we don't like the Yorubas, yet we populate their States in search for our livelihood.

Our politics should mirror our economic aspirations, not the other way around. There is no wisdom in living in the North, earning a living, yet despise the Northerners. That's being ungrateful. The gods of politics don't like that.

How long can this collective amnesia insulate us from meaningfully seating at the table, making contributions to Nigeria's political evolution?

How long can this foolishness go on?

How long?

There is a miserable silence across the land today, because we are realizing that we were sold off for pennies by pimps who parade as Igbo leaders.

Where are they?

Anyone home?"

Hmmm ... I sincerely hope some people are listening.

I believe everyone should play "smart" do what's gonna be for the greater good....

Many people were against Fashola and Tinubu and are thus transferring that hatred to a worthy man...

It will not be wise to "cut ur nose to spit ur face"

I mean, it's not about who wears d nicest suits, takes the best pictures (PS: Agbaje's campaign pics are really old o ooo, he doesn't look like that any more), or who speaks the most English....

An adage says "empty vessels make d loudest noise.."

I see Agbaje as a spoilt rich kid who just wants to be Governor....

Has he experienced what the average Nigerian has seen??

Felt our pain first hand??

I believe I the #SpiritOfLagos

I believe in Akinwunmi Ambode

Rochas said what needed saying. Look all across Nigeria, hausa and yoruba are congratulating each other on a successful cooperation, even before the merger they have clearly been treating each other with respect. We need to see the same. As it is today, Nigeria has two major tribes and some significant others that stand out. It used to be three. Pity.

Rochas Okorocha is accusing the Igbo Nation of myopia but his argument is in fact coated and covered with the very myopia he accuses his people off!

Rochas' only regrets is that we have no ranking Senator under APC to make Senate President from the South East. If the APC truly want to be inclusive they can elect Ike Ekweremadu or any PDP Senator from the East as the Senate President. The ruling party can back a member of another party to emerge the Senate President! If what this truly is about is inclusiveness!

You get the sense that what is at play here is not a quest to include Igbos but a childish attempt to win votes. Its all about April 11.

Need I remind Okorocha that in this 4th republic, we have had a few Senate Presidents. From Wagbara to Okadigbo to Anyim to Enwerem! Our aspiration as Igbos in Nigeria should be a little bit more sophisticated than just producing a Senate President. The Senate President is one man! amongst million of Igbos. The notion that all we should want as a people is to make one man Senate President is indeed myopic!

There was a Confab report that would have redefined what it means to be a modern Nigerian, where we had the debate about devolution of power and true federalism. The relationship between the State vs Individual. Implementing that report will change the lives of all Nigerians including ALL Igbos! Jonathan promised to implement the recommendations of that Report. APC refused to participate in the excersize. And have not pledged to implement the recommendations of that report. This for me is why APC has no place in Igbo land.

The truth is Rochas Okorocha is not worried about Igbos and we know this. Rochas is worried about Rochas political future and winning the next election in a weeks time. His betrayal of the trust of Imo State people will be punished at the polls on April 11.

Finally Nigeria needs a strong PDP. Nigeria needs a strong opposition party. Ndigbo need a strong PDP. The welfare state that Buhari and his APC are promising can not be sustained without a tax hike on small businesses and traders. We have seen this kind of attitude in Lagos and they will try to bring that to the Center. Ndigbo need a PDP that can provide an alternative platform to challenge the tax and spend policies of APC that may punish entrepreneurs and hardworking Nigerians!

In the last 4years the SW did not have the President, VP, Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker nor Deputy Speaker

It did not stop the Yorubas from being a major tribe.

So to suggest that because APC got elected then Igbos are no longer a major tribe is ridiculous!

You only won one election. There will be many other elections

You kind of miss the point. The yoruba political platform has been appeased by Obasanjo and even Jonathan because they recognise the strength of it. 16 years they have waited and built their strength and alliances to this climax where they are able to dethrone a government. They have demonstrated influence, strategy, unity and determination. The eastern equivalent is not obvious. By population numbers you may be right, but by every other indicator I see a fading away from relevance.

funny

Buhari na Yoruba man?

If you are so confident in the clout of the Yoruba on its own why did you not present Fashola or Tinubu and dethrone a government?

The tactics in this election had a lot of new features like PVC registrations and distribution which appears to favour Buhari.
But the strategy itself is as old as Nigeria. GEJ would not have lost this election if he was an Hausa Man and you know this!

I don't think you apprehension ridiculous this is. So the APC having campaigned with a different agenda from pdp, should now go to pdp for a Senate president, someone who does not believe or support their legislative agenda? Not in this lifetime! Did your pdp ever try that in 16yrs of governance? And please it is not about the one man, Nigerians like me from minority groups like to see the mixture of our many nationalities in public life. As it is the Senate president is likely going to the North Central zone where other minorities abound, kwara or Benue.
When we see Ezekwesili vilified by her own people for taking on Jonathan on behalf of the Chibok parents, we understand many things. Soludo has received own share, and the FFK that you were all protesting just a year or two ago over the ex-girlfriends matter, suddenly becomes an acceptable spokesman who's utterances you happily rebroadcast all in Jonathans cause. Now what representation has APGA achieved in the Senate? Will they do any better next week? Will it actually matter to anyone outside of the particular individuals concerned? Does Ohaneze matter to anyone? What exactly has the obsession with Jonathan done for the East? Ozugo biko.

Your response is perfect. It illustrates the difference between us. The yoruba were looking for partners to further their agenda for Nigeria, and the only realistic partner was Buhari. It was an alliance of anti-pdp, anti poor governance, anti corruption, and more socialist in the awolowo way. Your focus is on tribe and confidence to present a tribal candidate, and as you can see the people that thought like you have lost the war. Did the east even have any platform for any possible candidate from their region? No that was sold off directly to the pdp/Ijaw. And you talk about yoruba confidence, laughable. Fashola and Fayemi and a host of others have solid political futures ahead of them, while most of the eastern governors tend to leave office despised by their citizens.

Just Re read your post and tell me it's written with sincerity and good conscience. You pointed out that the Igbos do not need the senate presidency. And yet went ahead to harp on the need to implement the CONFAB report which wil be of immense benefit to the Igbos. My question for you are: Do you not know that the CONFAB report MUST pass through the legislature before it wil be implemented?. How many Senators do we have in the senate to push this agenda as against other Geo political zones?. Don't you think that an Igbo man occupying the seat of the senate presidency at this point in time wil place us at advantage to further negotiate for the interest of our people? Owelle is indeed a visionary leader and a strategist but unfortunately out of hate and "NSHIKO"(crab) mentality peeps are disparaging him now to blame the Hausas and Yorubas for their self inflicted wounds in the future. Hard work
Ambode was the only aspirant that went to all local government and development area in the state to campaign.

He really works very hard for the ticket.

He did not to take his endorsement by Tinubu for granted.

Hard work pays.
