NAF GRADUATES NEW SET OF 1,123 RECRUITS, AS CAS CHARGES THEM TO BE INNOVATIVE

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has tasked newly graduated recruits of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to be focused, motivated and innovative while contributing to NAF’s efforts towards achieving Nigeria’s national security imperatives. He stated this while reviewing the Passing Out Parade of 1,123 recruits of Basic Military Training Course 43/2022 held earlier today, 8 July 2023, at the Military Training Centre, NAF Base, Kaduna. While reminding them that they would be deployed to the various operational theatres to contribute their quota to national security, he urged them to ensure they operate within the rules of engagement as enumerated in the code of conduct for Armed Forces personnel involved in internal security operations.

He also admonished them to ensure they respect and protect the innocent and law-abiding civilians they trained to defend. “Treat them with respect and protect their rights. By so doing, you will be discharging your professional and constitutional duties. Remember also that the NAF undoubtedly expects the highest standards from you regarding civil-military Relations, ” he stated. The CAS went on to advise the new recruits to take advantage of abundant training opportunities in the NAF to become proficient in their chosen specialties. He also reiterated the need for them to be disciplined and subordinate their personal interests to those of the Service and the Nation.

Speaking further, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar charged them to ensure they internalize and thoroughly embrace the NAF core values of ‘Integrity first, Service before self and excellence in all you do,’ in order to maintain the reputation the Service has earned over the years. On the ongoing efforts to rid the nation of all criminal acts, the CAS counselled them not to allow themselves to be used by any subversive elements to destabilize the country. According to him, “You must not succumb to any inducement or action that would cause disaffection amongst fellow members of the Armed Forces and remember that your duty is to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of their leanings or inclinations.” Air Vice Marshal Abubakar also told the recruits to remember that they were now subject to both military and civil laws, hence, they must ensure they submit themselves to civil authority under democratic tenets. In view of the dangers the misuse of social media by some personnel portends for ongoing operations, the CAS advised them to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the social media policy of the Armed Force of Nigeria. According to him, contravening any of the provisions therein would be viewed very seriously.

While expressing his profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his ssupport, the CAS assured him of NAF's unalloyed loyalty and total commitment to his administration’s renewed hope and aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
The occasion had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, Commandants of Services Tri-service institutions in Kaduna, Branch Chiefs as well as Directors from NAF Headquarters among other dignitaries.

COMBINED TROOPS NEUTRALIZE ESN/IPOB FIGHTERS IN ENCOUNTER

Combined troops of 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police and Operatives of the Department of State Services have neutralized two IPOB/ESN fighters and arrested five others after a fierce encounter that took place on Monday 17 July 2023 at Fuji Junction general area in Asaba, Delta state. The encounter followed distress calls that the community was under attack by the terrorists, to which the combined troops swiftly responded. The terrorists succumbed to the overwhelming fire power of the troops, after two of their members fell in the fire fight that ensued, while the survivors fled to their hideout around Okpanam river.
The gallant troops in pursuit of the fleeing criminal elements, successfully trailed them to their enclave in a house around Okpanam river, where they were nabbed. The troops also recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.
We implore members of the public to continue to cooperate with the security agencies by providing actionable information to support their operations to tackle security challenges.

ARMY CHIEF FORMALLY FLAGS OFF OPERATION HAKORIN DAMISA, TELLS TROOPS TO SUSTAIN SWIFT RESPONSE TO DISTRESS CALLS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Taoreed Lagbaja has formally flagged off the ongoing operations to quell the unfortunate herders/ farmers clashes in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state. The operation, which was launched to mitigate the crisis in Mangu has progressively tackled the deteriorating security situation in the Local Government, restoring relative peace in the area.

Addressing the troops during the flag off, the Army Chief charged them to stamp out every form of security threat in the locality and on the Plateau in general. He urged them to sustain swift and timely response to distress calls, adding that they should also make it a point of duty to feedback the community concerned. This, he pointed out, will build the people's confidence in the ongoing operations. He assured the troops that topmost in his philosophy of command is the provision of Sound Administration, which places premium on the welfare and wellbeing of personnel.

The COAS also held a town hall meeting with critical stakeholders in Mangu, where he averred that all stakeholders must show commitment to what he described as the "Mangu Peace project", adding, that they and their families are the end beneficiaries when the locality and the state are peaceful. While noting that for peace and security to be guaranteed, it is pertinent for the tripartite components of the People, Government and the Security agencies to be harmonious and cooperative in their dealings,
Gen Lagbaja admonished all stakeholders to rein in their children and wards, who foment chaos and bear illicit fire arms, as troops are mandated to neutralize anyone bearing such weapons. He commiserated with every household who lost someone or property in the crisis, stressing that no amount of money is worth the life of any individual. He directed the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, who also doubles as the Commander Operation Safe Haven to work speedily with the stakeholders in ensuring that lasting peace is restored, to facilitate the return of Internally Displaced Persons to their respective communities.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman Mangu Local Government Council, Mr Markus Artu expressed gratitude to the COAS and the troops for their swift intervention in tackling the upheaval. He expressed hope, that with all hands on deck, enduring peace and stability will be attained in Mangu and the Plateau as a whole.
