With the victory of Buhari in the May 28, 2015 elections, a lot of 'CHANGES' are expected from the President-elect as from May 29, 2015.

For me, one of the first things he should do is to restore our Democracy Day to June 12; May 29 should be cancelled.

My reasons for this suggestion are as follows:

1. The freest and fairest election ever held in Nigeria was on June 12, 1993. It was an iconic day in which Nigerians from disparate walks of life came together as one to overcome tribal, ethnic, religious and political differences to democratically choose their leader. So, June 12 is the best date to celebrate our Democracy day, not May 29.

2. May 29 is a monstrous creation of the Military, the same Military that viciously annuled the June 12 most democratic election in the chequred history of Nigeria! May 29, if it has any value at all, only reminds us of the illegal rule of the military and how our inexhaustble resources have been plundered and eviscerared over the years. Nigerian do not want to be reminded of the military era; we want to be reminded of Freedom, Unity and brotherly love - only June 12 can do this.

3. APC, the coalition of parties led by ACN, has always recognised June 12 as Democracy day in all APC/ACN controlled states. Therefore, since Buhari came to power on the platform of APC, it is fait accompli that June 12 should be the Democracy Day.

4. No Nigerian died for May 29. However, so many Nigerians, young and old, died to validate / reverse the annulment of the June 12 elections. M.K.O Abiola himself, the winner of the election, died in the quest to realise his stolen mandate. These Nigerians should not be made to die in vain and the only way to immortalise these matyrs of democracy is to restore Democracy day to June 12.

Please, this is not an exhaustive list. Please deel free to add yours.

We are not talking about immortalising MKO Abiola as a University has already been named after him.
What we are saying is that June 12 should be officially recognised by the Federal Government as Nigeria's Democracy day, not May 29!
