No Need For International Force In Boko Haram Fight - President Jonathan by AdigunOAP: 8:24am On Apr 17, 2015

Abuja - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday told the United Nations his country would not need the help of an international force in the fight against Boko Haram.

The outgoing leader said in a statement he wanted the UN to
focus instead on helping to rebuild communities and assist those affected by the six-year Islamist insurgency.

Jonathan made the remarks after meeting with the special
representatives of the UN secretary-general for west and central Africa, Mohammed Ibn Chambas and Abdoulaye Bathily, the statement said.

The UN refugee agency has said that 1.5 million people have been
displaced by Boko Haram violence in northern Nigeria, while more
than 13 000 people have been killed.

Jonathan said that with the support of troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon, the Nigerian military had in recent months
regained most of the towns and villages seized by the Islamist
militants in the northeastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

'Final push'

The Nigerian military has "commenced a final push to take the last stronghold of the insurgents in Sambisa Forest" in Borno state, the statement quoted him as saying.

It is believed that most of the 219 schoolgirls abducted by Boko
Haram from Chibok in Borno state a year ago are being held in
the forest.

Chambas, a former head of west African regional bloc ECOWAS,
told Jonathan that the UN team was visiting the countries
affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, which also includes
Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

He reaffirmed the UN's readiness to support the ongoing efforts
by Nigeria and its neighbours to end the insurgency.

Why now that, we've all most flushed out those terrorist occuping territories. However, there are still much work to be done, especially with the internally displaced people.

THIS just goes to confirm what people had been accusations all along, that Jonathan's Administration deliberately left Bokoharam to perpetrate great havoc on the North unchecked.

That means Bokoharam, really, was no match for the Nigerian Army all along. It was a delibrate policy on the part of the Administration for reasons beat known to them to allow Bokoharam to have a field day of killing sprees.

And the people are blaming the Northerners who have had to bear the brunt and cruelty of this evil for not voting Jonathan.

Because so far, nothing has changed. It's still the same Nigerian Army, same Bokoharam that have been for the past at least four to five years now. Yet Boko Haram have been almost displaced now, just within a space of two months.

If this story is true then I SMH.

The Clueless One has done enough and is in no position to be telling the UN that we do not need military assistance .

At the time Buhari said so, he said so in the context of how the army was waging the war against Boko Haram. The army was not making distinction between Boko Haram and the defenseless civilians. There were continually being killed. That was Buhari's reason for the then statement.

I believe he should have communicated his thoughts more effectively in way his intent wouldn't have been misconstrued .
