wirinet: Liar. No amount of revisionist history will alter the truth. Here's what a militant igbo said about the subject:
From the writer's quoted words, it's clear that Igbos haven't learned their lesson. The writer is therein bragging about Igbos dominating Rivers and one day outnumbering the indigenes. This sort of foolish supremacist attitude and tendency is what lands them into trouble with their hosts. from: http://chatafrik.com/articles/nigerian-affairs/ikwerre-is-is-not-igbo#.VTNWm_SjqhY |

WisdomFlakes: I didn't see any where in that article, where Ikwerres were accused to have masterminded the abandoned property saga. They only looked the other way, while their Igbo brothers were dispossessed of the very land they( Ikwerre) sold to the hinterlands Igbos. Any who keeps quiet in the face of oppression is either a coward or a traitor. In the case of Ikwerres, their silence built on their desire to please the Ijaws in order to become a part of the old Rivers state, was seen as betrayal by Ndiigbo. At that moment, Ijaws actions hurt less than the Ikwerres, cos we considered them kin, hence most Igbos rather hold Ikwerres culpable for the abandoned property saga, than the distant Ijaws, they felt betrayed. |

WisdomFlakes: Who is this Benjamin Obiajulu Aduba and what qualifies him to be an expert on this subject matter, is he a professor of history? Why not provide us with credible source to know which history has been revisioned. My wife is Igbo, Nkwerre to be precise. My father Inlaw was a very active participant in the war, so to me his version is very credible to me. My father inlaw was originally from Port harcourt, his father had lots of property in portharcourt but his family was displaced to Imo during the war. After the war, on getting back to port harcourt all the family property were classifified as abandoned property and had been taken over by others. You will see that the term Nkwerre and Ikwerre are very similar. I was told that they are the same people, but were separated after the civil war. The Ikwerris are in Rivers while the Nwkerres are across the border in Imo. |

I doubt this is the official party line of the Igbo race, otherwise they are cursed race indeed. If not, then those responding to the lunatic OP , should please ignore him and others who create such topics here. These socio-paths want you to validate their lunacy and you legitimise their psychoses when you respond. 1 Like 1 Share |

pazienza: Please tell me this, coz you sound reasonable. Why would ikwerre igbos in Rivers and Agbor igbos in Delta deny their igbo-ness? I have an Agbor igbo friend who denies being igbo (even though I know he is), he would rather claim affinity with Benins. Personally i think it's coz they detest igbo domination and supremacist tendencies. |

Entchidodo:Ichidodo, this has passed joking matter ooo! It's time you guys divest yourself and look at this issue in your best interests. This thing may not be viewed by the Lagos Yoruba lightly, as you're mistaking it. In the event of clash of interests, their brothers in the whole SW will be behind them. I tell you again – it's not in the interest of the Igbo to be SEEN working against the interest of the indigenes – to the extent that a King should lightly remind you of your positions. Remember, all these uncalled tensions in SA was started by a King who thought his people are being taken for granted. 2 Likes |

Now we have an International Airport, river ports and other commercial enabling infrastructures underway...Tis just keeps getting better and better. Re: Abuja Is A No Man's Land by pazienza(m): 9:08am On Apr 19, 2015 |
WisdomFlakes: No, it's because of the persecution, the prejudice and the pains that come with the Igbo tag in the post 1970 Nigeria, even till date. The Ikas and other Igbo speaking groups at the Igbo borderlands, thought they could escape that, simply by denying the Igbo tag. But from the looks of things, I don't think it worked out for them. Nigerians know they are Igbos and always do remind them of that, when the chips are down, like we saw with Odili's presidential bid, while at the same time, using their shortsighted bid for New identity to divide and conquer Igboland, when it is expedient to them( Nigerians). They( the Igbo denials) simply played into the hands of the gang up, the gang up couldn't believe their luck. Mind you that in 1939, when the British colonial administrator of Nigeria, Bernard Burdillion partitioned Nigeria into three regions with the Western Igboland( present day Anioma, of which Agbor is a part of) separated from the Eastern Igboland, three Anioma kings, among which was the Obi of Agbor, petitioned the colonial government for separating Anioma from the rest of Igboland. They wouldn't have done that, if there wasnt a sense of kinship between them and us. The civil war did a lot of damage to the Igbo nation, but time is going to heal that damage, and we will emerge better and stronger. |

MalcoImX: I'll never forget an experience that occurred during my first ever visit to Abuja about 7yrs ago after my return from the U.S. The cab guy that drove me from the airport, an igbo guy, uttered the statement that "Abuja na no man's land o", during our conversation about the city. I didn't take it to mean anything at the time, but now I understand better. |

MalcoImX:Tis never the interest of the igbos to be intimidated and cajoled into giving up their rights especially in a one nation state Nigeria, remember they have been through hell and back to get where they at unlike the SW....What happened in SA can only happen here if the yorubas take it upon themselves to declare an Odua Republic then it can be seen that the igbos are foreigners to be kicked out but as long as the Constituition remains a valid document to both parties and there are yorubas earning their livelihood in the east then the Status quo still remains as far as Lagos being a no man's land is concerned.. |
Re: Abuja Is A No Man's Land by MalcoImX: 9:35am On Apr 19, 2015 |
WisdomFlakes:Well, that was then, when they were saying it in low tones. Now, they're beginning to be vocal like Ichidido who'll ship his good to the North if the Yorubas decide on a boycott. He'd better stay in Lagos and settle with the indigenes before bringing his wahala up here. Of what use is buying his goods that they refused to buy in Lagos if tomorrow he'll begin to argue with the natives that the land does not belong to them. |
Re: Abuja Is A No Man's Land by MalcoImX: 9:53am On Apr 19, 2015 |
Entchidodo:You were making a good case until the 'no man's land' part. Why do you even have to insist on being Nigerians when others don't have to.? I feel Nigerian (with full rights) in Lagos but it won't occur to me to even tell an Ogun man that Lagos doesn't belong to him, talk less of a Lagos indigene. Most tribes live in this country glide over these things unnoticed, but why does the Igbo find it difficult to be in Rome. I've seen Igbo people born and bred in the North, and are closer to my state governor only by virtue of being his child mates. And they benefit more than I who claimed to be the owner of the land. Why does the Igbo find it difficult to situate properly in the Nigerian context? Maybe I'll understand if you can answer honestly. No chest-beating! |

codedslayer: Yeee booo “Most Igbos say they are the people that developed Lagos and made Lagos what it is today. They say without Igbos, Lagos is finished. And i keep on wondering, how has Igbos helped in shaping and developing Lagos?Lets get the facts right, Igbos didn't develop Lagos, rather, it was Lagos that shaped and made the Igbos what they are today. Without igbos in Lagos, Lagos will remain Lagos and without Lagos, most Igbos may likely be nothing.“Reasons for my assertion is that most giant and top companies that attracts millions of people across the country to Lagos are not owned by the Igbos, so, how has Igbos shaped and developed Lagos? These are the achievements and economic advancement Igbos gave Lagos and Lagosians; tokunbo and fake spare parts at Ladipo Market, China Electronics and pirated CDs at Alaba market, bend-down select clothes at Idumota, yaba and katangowa market, Chinese and tokunbo computers accessories and Fake phones at Computer village Ikeja; are Igbos economical achievement and contribution to Lagos. In fact, most Igbos are causing nuissance in Lagos. A visit to this markets will tell you the amount of nuissance that most Igbos has caused in Lagos. The environments these Igbos traders are mostly populated are always polluted with waste of all sorts, they are dirty, stinking, rough, Attention of illegal shops on the road,on the pipeline and railway lines are encouraged in this market places that causes traffic gridlock and other dangerous acts and when Lagos state government dismantle these illegal shops, they get angry, if Lagos state government close their shops for environmental violation, they pick offence. How then has the Igbos developed Lagos? As far as am concerned, PZ, COCA-COLA, 7UP, CADBURY, MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, ETISALAT, DANGOTE, SHOP-RITES, GOLDEN PENNY, FLOUR MILL, INDOMIE, UNILEVER, P&G, CHI LIMITED, GUINNESS, NIGERIA BREWERIES, OANDO, CONOIL, TOTAL, MOBIL, CHEVRON, SHELL, AQUADANA, KFC, EKO HOTEL, INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, PROTEA HOTEL,ORIENTAL HOTEL,JULIUS BERGER, RCC CONSTRUCTION, NESTLE, KPMG, GSK, FRISLAND FOOD, WAMCO, BRITISH AMERICA TOBACCO, FLOUR MILL, SCHLUBEGER, AIT, SILVERBIRD TV, CHANNELS TV, LARFARGE,AVIS,CECC etc are not owned by the Igbos. These companies are what attracted millions of people to Lagos. Igbos shouldn't lay claim that they develop a place by becoming a nuisance. Most of the top churches in Lagos are not also owned by the Igbos. House on the Rock, Redeem, Christ Embassy, Deeper life, living faith, MFM, etc are not owned by Igbos, the only church owned by an Igbo man is TREM, while another Igbo church Lord Chosen church encourage nuissance in Lagos and its also dubbed as the dirtiest church in Lagos.Records shows that 75% of robbery cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 85% of ritual cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 60% of drug cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 70% of fraud cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 90% of pirated CDs in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 60% of fake and Adulterated drugs in Lagos that has killed thousands of Lagosians are carried out by Igbos, in fact, most of the crimes in Lagos are related to the Igbos so how has Igbos developed Lagos when they can't get their hands off crimes? There is no Igbo man among the top three richest people in Nigeria, so how are they successful? The truth is that the Igbos should be grateful that the Yorubas accommodated them in Lagos peacefully, they shouldn't take the Meekness and kindness of the Yorubas for granted.Igbos didn't make Lagos but its actually Lagos that made Igbos. 4 Likes |

ephemm: Abuja does not belong to the Hausas and neither does Jos. The most important thing to remember ss that Abuja FTC FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, is actually owned by the NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT....was it not sold to them? You can't sell something and still claim to own it. Abuja FTC does not belong to any tribe alone, not Igbo, Hausa etc. The indegenous people of that area are not Hausas either. The contention, which I quite agree with is the term 'no man's land' it is not really the best term to describe present and former capitals. I would say 'all man's land'. That is what happens when a place is put forward at the expense of all else'. When places such as Lagos and Abuja were and are being earmarked for importance and more importantly MONEY and investment........did anyone complain? People now complaining, welcomed the attraction to these cities incuding the sweat of all Nigerians......but now, they want to suggest it is just 'theirs'. As far as I know the Gbagyi's are indigenous to FCT........which now in fact does belong to all Nigerians through the federal gov. I must say though, Igbos need to stop repeating all this. There are any groups who have migrated to ABJ incudng Hausa's people from SS and SW etc................why do we feel the need to always be the ones spouting this 'no man's land' tag? Well at least online. Why are you more concerned with these places, rather than your own region? Many behave as if Igboland is not also a place they should ACTIVELY develop. IMO, Igbos do this with such folly. Abuja is not a 'no man's land', but an 'all man's land'.............through the current owners which is in fact the Federal Government. If you sell your house to a person, at which point do you come to terms with the fact that the house is under a new owner? I think the gov did this purposely, so that nobody will ow stake a claimand try and disenfranchise other Nigerians. If people now want to claim ownership then maybe those funds used to develop former and present capital cities, should instead have been shared equally between each region to develop their own regional capitals, with EQUAL gov backing to raise their own profiles. I can beT, the very people claiming these capitals as their own ONLY, would even speak the loudest againt that idea. They simply want their cake and eat it too. |
