THE OREKOYA KIDS AND WHY OLX IS A FERTILE GROUND FOR HARD CORE CRIMINALS BY PASCHAL CHIKERO
POSTED BY PASCHAL CHIKERO

The fact is that we all thank God that the Orekoya kids have been found and returned to their parents if not, there are a lot of lifestyles that would have been questioned. Even as they have been found, we MUST ask ourselves if it is safe to turn OLX into a trusted medium for business transactions and deal negotiations. In the case of the Orekoyas, my findings reveal that the mother of the kids who is a staff of United Bank for Africa, made OLX her trusted platform for purchasing properties. I gathered that her car was bought via OLX! It is this blind trust on OLX that made her go ahead to seal a deal with a total stranger . A woman she doesn’t know anything about. Meaning, she trusts anything on OLX! That same trust is what blindfolded her to leave her three kids with a woman she just met hours after employment.
OREKOYA KIDS AND MUM
My point is , trading on OLX is very dangerous and I will proof that right now. If you want to buy lets say, a car, you search your preferred brand and model on OLX. If you find it and finds the price tag ok, you could call the seller and negotiate business. It is that easy but it is also very dangerous because here you are dealing with human beings you don’t know anything about. OLX is a fertile platform for criminals to practice. It endangers the lives of both the seller and buyer.
A criminal could show interest in a car you are selling, after the phone conversation, he or she must see and test drive the car before purchase. The danger here is, at the point of test driving, you could be robbed by the same person or people who you might have allowed into your house because you want to sell a car.
There is no way, you could know if the interested buyer is a serious buyer or a criminal.
This is what went wrong for Mrs Orekoya. She couldn’t have known if the Nanny was a criminal or a real Nanny. It just like marrying some one you met on Facebook without real life dating and knowledge of ….. it is suicidal!
OLX MUST raise its standards, it has to come up with a system that can help checkmate criminal activities with it, come up with policies that empowers the customers with more information about the person he or she is dealing with. Traders must be made to give out real, verifiable information about themselves online before they can do business on OLX . They can tear a page from telecommunications firms that ensure that before you use a SIM card, you must register it, do your biometrics etc. This way they have a database of their clients so if anything goes wrong, it will be easy to trace. If these kids were not found, it would have been a case of money rituals! OLX as it is now is porous, it exposes it users to serious dangers.
OLX (OnLine eXchange) operates as a national online classifieds marketplace for used goods such as furniture, musical instruments, sporting goods, cars, kids and baby items, motorcycles, cameras, mobile phones, property and much more. It is accessible through the internet and through native apps on smartphones. OLX has a presence in over 106 countries with offices and local operations in Angola, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Portugal, Poland, Peru, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Panama, Switzerland, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Thailand, Philippines, Pakistan, Ghana and others.[1]
Originally founded in March 2006 by Internet entrepreneurs Fabrice Grinda and A.C.F. Oxenford. OLX is now owned by global media and digital company Naspers.

Olx is a very good platform giving Nigerians an opportunity for wider audience with business just like other countries but Nigerians by their nature are dubious and criminal minded that is why the world keep hating us they must corrupt every good thing that arise in Naija.
The bottom line is thread cautiously on olx and every other online site apply extra security measures
Direct human services such as that of housemaid is better done offline

Criminals and crooks may have thought to have cover their foot prints, but alas, they will always leave something any deep thinking person could use to puzzle out the culprit(s).
Often times, the ones getting scammed are the greedy and lazy ones.Always be on the alert as even your own blood brother can prey on thee, talk more of a stranger.we live in a world where the concept of "being our brothers keepers" is outdated.
Like the lagotians would say "Shine your eyes like daddy shokey"
