bushdoc9919: Its not true bro. When a student pays N45,000 in federal university, it just means the government pays N455,000 if you think N500,000 is the ideal school fees in Nigerian universities. 2 Likes |

Rapzino: That's the problem we face right now. Our federal universities are not well funded...and as a result..they have bad facilities (especially residential and scientific and even library facilities) and their graduates are not good enough. Whereas private universities pay high school fees...and get high quality education. You see....we have to pay more attention to this problem. Many Nigerian companies prefer foreign uni graduates over Nigerian university graduates because the foreign ones are so much better. And the gap is going to keep growing. The private universities too are producing better graduates. In other words...guess who will lose out in the job markets. The son of the groundnut seller....who got his education from a poorly resourced Federal university. While rich kid who got his education in a good private university or even a foreign university is going to win every time. Meanwhile...Govt has refused to increase funding. In 2009...Govt promised N3trillion for federal and state universities. By 2013...the money had gone down to N1 trillion...spaced out over five years. Not long after some federal unis toyed with the idea of increasing fees. You get my drift now? Let's be honest....unless Govt can find N10TRILLION....which is going to be impossible because oil prices dropping means the treasury is lean...and i mean LEAN.....we may have to increase fees. Or else...the poor you like very much will lose out heavily. P.S Read this...http://omojuwa.com/2012/12/proposal-for-tertiary-education-in-nigeria-by-amasonic-opesays/ 2 Likes |

The total number of covenant university graduates that applied for these scholarship should be put into consideration in relation to their public university colleagues. Since CU produces a minimum of 100 firstclass annually, there is a very high probability that they will dominate the scheme. 4 Likes |

jaybee: The problem is govt may not be able to afford that N455000 naira anymore...if they were paying it in the first instance. The money needed for our universities to be world class is far more than just N455000 per student. (Someone even estimated it at N60000 per student per annum. ). In 2009....ASUU got govt to give unis N3trillion by 2011. By 2013....surprise...the money had dropped to N1 trillion by 2018.In installments of 200bn per annum. And that was when oil was still over $100 PER barrel. With low oil prices....you think that govt is going to be paying that large amount.? Our universities need money...and a lot of other things. |

bushdoc9919: So, u wanna compare private university with federal university ni?..dir are more facilities in federal university dan any private university...I ave frnds who r nt gud with books and still come out with 2.1 after dy fail 2 get admission into federal university Mind u, federal university lecturers are d best...most private university dnt ave more 20 prof in d whole university |
Re: Covenant University’s First Class Graduates Dominate PRESSID by Nobody: 1:12pm On Apr 22, 2015 |
Sibrah: Which is not being paid at that level....especially since ASUU was forced to take 1trillion over 5 years in 2013. And anyway.....we need far more than the N30000 per annum. Some estimate that we need anything between N60000-2million per annum. And now oil prices are falling. Either fees go up....or our unis lose out. bushdoc9919:Simple truth is the public schools are corrupt. From academics to infrastructure private schools that aren't set up for profit purpose offer far more than their public counterpart do in terms of infrastructure and lecturers. The public school are a reflection of our corrupt government. How many public schools can provide 16-20 hours of power supply per day or meet the NUC standard of laboratories. They impose these on private school via NUC and use their power to pardon themselves. |

samyale: I don't dispute that some federal uni lecturers are good (my dad and mum were lecturers in a federal univeristy for over two decades...and my dad still works in the system)....but they are handicapped by bad facilities. My dad's field is science. They cannot do ground breaking research because they do not have the facilities. One of my dad's previous working places had not bought any new scientific equipment since the 70's. Meanwhile....private unis are slowly increasing the gap.Of course...I do not rate most private unis as being good....but they will get there. And a large bit of how they will get there is facilties.(My alma mater...a federal uni...has six students per room. Covenat and AAU have less than one student for the same space. Tell me...which student won't do well). And key to widening that gap is funding. And the govt is not helping matters. They claim that they do not have the money. Look....if you want world class...you better be ready to pay for word class...personally or govt. Read here:http://www.scribd.com/doc/79378074/Education-in-Nigeria 1 Like |

alentyno: He doesn't need to lie out rightly but statistics can always be presented in a way that does not reflect the truth ! For instance when in business meetings/presentations, I tell clients that my company handles a certain form of revenue collection for a certain state and they are wowed. Which is true but not so true. Yes, I handle a particular form of IGR for a state but that same project was actually divided into three parts. The part I am responsible for is the smallest and accounts for less than one tenth of the collections. So in essence, what I am saying is true(fact) but it really gives a wrong impression of reality. Bottomline, this information would have been more credible coming from another source 2 Likes |

Jeromejnr: Thanks. Let me note that I do not like high fees. Personally....I would even make education free at all levels if I were president. But the problem is....Nigeria is not rich enough yet to fund free education. Germany does it...and germany has a very HEFTY GDP. The United Arab Emirates does it...and they produce 800000 more barrels of oil daily than we do. They also have less than 11 Million people compared to Nigeria's 170million people. When I argue for high fees...I do it with a heavy heart. I wish I did not have to make the point. It is too painful. But....the sad thing is that we may have no choice. Anyway...here is an ides on the funding thing from Ife Adebayo.... Tuition Fees: 2 Likes |

When the number of first class students churn out by the school is so high that almost all the graduate from the school have first class and are almost all eligible to apply for the PRESSID scholarship, why wont they take the highest percentage of the overall numbers. For instance, 50 CU students, all with Firstclass degree apply for the scholarships, and about 10 of them are shortlisted, whereas other universities where u hardly have about 10 first class graduate, how many of then do u think will be shortlisted from the different University. At most 2 or 3 per schools from the other universities. |

What some of us don't understand is that our lecturers in federal universities are largely sadists who always sees the cups as half empty unlike their counterparts at the private universities who sees the cups as half filled. And that is all that makes the difference. There are millions of first class would have been students at our federal and state universities if only the evil machinations of our school authorities and depth of hell heart of most our lecturers are not there to render them to degraded pass marks. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
