The reprieve for the Filipino is temporary.....the woman who made her traffic the drugs has JUST been arrested by the Philippines police....and as such the spared woman may be needed to testify in that lady(her ex--madam's ) trial in the Philippines.

She may still be executed later.

The Filipino's story, can be scripted though.

She was offered a temporary reprieve to testify in the trial of her oga madam drug baroness...who was arrested by the Philippine Police recently.

She may still have to face the squad once she finishes testifying.

Partiality at its peak....so after how many years someone now turns himself in to save the Filipino while the rest were executed, I believe the Philippine govt got someone and payed him a huge sum so as to save the woman

No. If u have followed the story earlier the woman maintained consistency that she was deceived.Here now a man has owned up in her country to that effect.She will be allowed to face the man in court.

The Australian government pleaded but it fell on deaf hears. The Nigerian government also pleaded too but if they could reject the plea of the Australians, they will never listen to Nigerians who have a very notorious history of drug traficking in south -east asia. Indonesia have arguably the strictest drug laws in the world along side malaysia and they take no nonsense. As cruel as this may be, it should serve as a lesson to others.

I totally agree wit u, each and every 1 executed was dam aware of dat strict law bt dey went ahead to test d indonesian government... and for d nigerians executed dey felt it nigeria were dere is high chances of escaping such......Rip to d dead.....

The most painful aspect of this is that some people will still traffic drugs into this country.

What kind of stringent laws is that? Why can de put such laws in corruption related cases if their country will nt be one of the richest in d world, to me o dat law is gross deciet and wickedness.

A reporter on CCTV today said that on.average 50 underage youth die daily of the drugsthis was the reason for the law

Laws are laws, indonesia is not nigeria where you can bribe your way out of everything, this is a clear wake up call for other drug mules and smugglers to stay away from their country or else

Someone on another comment thread (not Nairaland) said that when he visited Indonesia some years ago...there were signs everywhere stating that if they caught you trafficking drugs....you will face the capital punishment.

Anyone moving drugs into that country better not use the ''I was not warned'' excuse.

If you must traffic drugs...try UK. 5 years of jail....plus deportation.At least you live grin

For anyone wondering why the Fillipina lady was spared....here is this info from the UK Guardian...

There is news from a spokesperson for Indonesia’s attorney general, however, that Mary Jane Veloso was spared after a woman who allegedly recruited her to act as a drug courier gave herself up to police in the Philippines on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said in a text message to media:

There was a request from the Philippine president regarding the perpetrator who’s suspected of committing human trafficking and surrendered in the Philippines.

MJ is needed for her testimony.
