The Senate President, David Mark, has decried the ceaseless epileptic power supply in the country despite the promises made in the wake of the privatisation of the sector.

He spoke in Abuja while receiving the management of the Electricity Management Services Limited in Abuja Friday.

“In spite of the high expectations and promises on account of the privatisation of the power sector, Nigerians are yet to feel the positive impact of the sector,” Mr. Mark said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, had stated on Thursday that the power output had dropped from 4,500MW to 2,800MW, blaming it on “vandalism of gas pipelines”.

Mr. Mark charged operators of the industry to give meaning to the privatisation by making the sector work so that citizens could enjoy in interrupted power supply.

He noted that the snail speed of development in the power sector does not give credence to the privatisation exercise and the expectations of Nigerians.

He also challenged industry operators to get rid of quacks in the profession in order to give consumers quality services.

The Senate President tasked them to take the bull by the horn by embarking on manufacturing of electrical tools instead of relying totally on importation saying that importation should only compliment.

This, he said would save cost and curtail capital flight besides creating jobs for the populace.

Earlier, the managing Director of EMLS, Peter Ewesor, explained that the mandate of the agency includes but not limited to ensuring that electrical equipment used in the energy supply industry are of the right quality, standards and specifications.

He added that the agency ensures the safety of lives and property within the grid and off grid networks.

The EMSL is one of the players in the electricity supply industry established in accordance with the provisions of part 1 section 8 of the power sector reform act 2005 and the supplementary regulations number 46/47 (B499-452 ) of the federal government official Gazette no 374 of 2010.

He bemoans!

Many of these politicians can be amazingly clueless, bereft of any practical idea to solve our problems! They've been unproductive if not counter- productive for years, despite having all sorts of special advisers assisting them, guzzling a big part of our recurrent expenditure in the process.

Given the way some of these politicians talk, it's safe to say they think most Nigerians are stuupid.

Is it just now David Mark is realizing that the privatization has not delivered the desired result?

Why has it taken him eternity to bemoan the lack of electricity?

Had GEJ and PDP won the elections as they did in the past, would this man have bemoaned the sorry state of our power supply?

These people have taken us for a ride for good sixteen years and it is very annoying especially when one considers the amount of money we have wasted in that industry.
