Awoofawo: Some Igbo towns did, such as Awka, Oraifite, etc and the scarification process is calle igbu ichi, and scar called 'ichi'. However, Igbo scars cannot be compared in magnitude with the Yoruba scars as they were/are much smaller in size and fewer in number of markings. |

bigfrancis21: Thank appreciate the way you approached the issue being discussed. The one I knew about, is the tiny mark just above the ears at the side of the face..most Igbo have, at first I thought it has its origin in the civil war (for identification of Biafraian). But now know otherwise..... We don't need to alway fight when discussing thing like these, presenting our idea or opinion in non threating form is all that is need. Have a nice! |

Awoofawo: We're not fighting, are we? Well I'm Igbo too. The mark the guy mistook is the st*upid herbalist mark given to "sick" babies or toddlers to "chase away the sickness". I was given the st*upid mark too (on both sides of my face) in the early 70's as a toddler, simply because I was so scare of darkness. It's NOT Tribal mark. Ndigbo had no Tribal marks but we had barbaric traditions that warranted giving marks to kids to "cure" whatever they thought the kids had. A Tribal mark is normally given to identify someone's ethnicity. |
