I think it's safe to say that Igbo people are activeIy revising major parts of Nigeria's history to suit thier ideologies or present realities, or both.

You see, revisionism is not a new thing and everyone does it. China, Turkey, Germany, America, everyone. The trick is to make the public believe it and you've succeeded. The Turkish have succeeded in convincing themselves that their forefathers were never involved in the Armenian genocide, whilst a good number of Europeans now question the Holocaust. The Chinese revise their history all the time, projecting ideas such as that of the middle kingdom to increase their sphere of influence in Asia. Now the Igbo people are at it, and actively so.

From the way Awolowo died, to the history of Lagos , to happenings of the civil war, and even precolonial issues such as writing and trade, Igbo people are not waiting for anyone to define their history.

His portraits adorn public places in Nigeria especially in his native Yoruba land where he is seen as an icon.
His picture also adorn Nigeria’s one hundred naira note.
He has been described surprisingly by some of his greatest critics and even political opponents as probably the Best President Nigeria never had.
He struck a chord with the womenfolk during his lifetime when in a rare show of public affection for his wife of several years, Chief Mrs Hannah Dideolu Awolowo told the world that the woman was his jewel of inestimable value.
How right or prophetic he was because his wife has continued to strengthen the mileage of the husband’s name even in death.
