The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied insinuations that the party is in crisis.

PDP also debunked reports that the National Working Committee, NWC, mismanaged campaign funds running into billions on Naira.

National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Monday accused enemies of the party of working to cause confusion and animosity within the leadership.

He also added that embattled National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, remains in charge until the expiration of his tenure in March 2016.

Full text of the statement:

Gentlemen of the Press,

“You will recall that soon after the 2015 general elections, the media, especially the social media have been awash with sponsored negative publications and other insinuations against the leadership of our great party.

“You will also recall that we had hinted you on several occasions that some fifth columnists working with other parties had been concocting some frivolous allegations and sponsoring amorphous groups against the National Working Committee.

“We had also alerted the Nigerian public through you that some members of our party including ambitious aides and associates of President Goodluck Jonathan are using their perceived closeness to him to further their heinous agenda of injecting crisis in the party with a view to hijacking the structure for their selfish interests.

“In the attempt to discredit the NWC, these elements pushed out series of misleading information to the unsuspecting public alleging that the party leadership mismanaged the Presidential campaign funds, leading to the poor performance in the polls and as such NWC should be made to resign.

“When this wicked and baseless allegation was debunked by the NWC who publicly clarified that it was not involved in the handling of the campaign and its funding, and that such were exclusively managed by the Presidential Campaign Organization appointed by the President, these divisive elements in their desperation came up with another allegation claiming that the leadership embezzled funds belonging to the party.

“Even after the NWC also debunked this despicable allegation, showing that the party’s funds were judiciously appropriated for our state election campaigns, this group resorted to labeling the NWC with attempts to instigate President Jonathan, PDP governors and other well-meaning members of our party against the national leadership.

“This is in addition to recent sponsored publications accusing the NWC of corruption with claims that members shared monies generated from the sale of forms from aspirants for the general elections.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that this national leadership has remained very transparent in all its dealing since coming into office. No NWC member has been involved in anyway in any sleaze or embezzlement of party funds. Also no member of the NWC has ever been accused of embezzlement of funds in any ministry, department or agencies of government at any level whatsoever.

“We state clearly that we have not been given any money rather this NWC generated billions of naira from the sale of forms from where we funded our candidates for governorship and state assembly elections in all the states of the federation in addition to funds released to key leaders including NWC and BoT members to prosecute the campaigns in their various areas. The NWC is willing and ready to make this account public in line with the freedom of information law.

“We hereby wish to alert the general public and all our members that the main agenda of these elements is not only to hijack the national leadership but also to create an impression of division and crisis and pave the way to lure some of our elected members to decamp to other parties apparently in view of the recent ruling of the Supreme Court which allows defection in the event of leadership crisis at their party’s national level.

“However, we are happy to announce that the leader of our party, President Jonathan, the PDP governors and other key stakeholders of our party including governors and legislators-elect are deeply concerned about this development and have intervened to ensure the desired stability in our party.

“We thank the President for his role in calling all stakeholders to order in the general interest of the party. In the same vein, we thank our governors and elders of the party for their mediation as well as in joining forces with the NWC in the efforts to reengineer and rebuild our great party and reposition to it to regain power in 2019.

“As you are aware, part of our reengineering process is the setting up of the PDP Post Election Assessment Committee, which is to be inaugurated tomorrow to evaluate and assess our performance in the general elections and make recommendations for the way forward.

“On this note we wish to state clearly that there is no crisis in the national leadership of the PDP. The National Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu is duly elected and is fully in control of the administration of the party until the expiration of its tenure in March 2016 in line with the provisions of the constitution of our great party.

“We therefore urge all our members across the country to close ranks and work together with their leaders at all levels and make themselves partners in progress in the all important on-going rebuilding process aimed at restoring the supremacy of the party and its glory as the preeminent party in Nigeria.

“What we need now is to eschew all personal and private agenda and join forces to reinvent our party for the task ahead.”

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has given insight on why President Goodluck Jonathan lost the recent presidential election to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari.
The spokesperson for the party, Olisa Metuh, said Monday that the party headquarters was sidelined during the campaigns, and that “overzealous” persons were allowed to run a hate campaign against Mr. Buhari, thereby making the former military ruler more popular.
The PDP campaign was characterized by hate campaigns against Mr. Buhari with little emphasis on the achievement of Mr. Jonathan.
Some of the most horrific attacks against Mr. Buhari came from the president’s wife, Patience, the governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, and the spokesperson for Mr. Jonathan’s campaign team, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Mr. Metuh said, “In 2003 President Obasanjo ran against Odumegwu Ojukwu, while late President Yar’adua also ran against him in 2007.
“If the PDP had run its campaign based on hate speech against the Ikemba Nnewi, he would have won by a landslide in the whole of the South East,” he said.
Campaign funds fraud
Against the backdrop of controversy regarding how campaign funds of the PDP were spent and recent agitations for the members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, to resign for leading the party to failure, the NWC reacted by insisting that no money was given to it and that it rather spent its own internally generated funds to sponsor the candidates of the party.
Mr. Metuh, who addressed a press conference at his office on Monday, said the NWC generated over N9 billion from the sales of nomination forms to aspirants and used the money to support candidates of the party.
“We gave the presidential campaign N500 million and also supported our governorship candidates in the states with N100 million each, apart from those running for the state assemblies,” Mr. Metuh said.
The NWC members have been accused of pocketing funds given to them for party campaigns.
News website, Sahara Reporters, reported weekend that several members of the NWC received and pocketed N30 million, refusing to work for the victory of the party.
Mr. Metuh said the NWC was never given any money for the campaigns and denied embezzling such money.
He however admitted that NWC members received the said N30 Million, which he said included their housing, furniture and other allowances that have not been past for the past two years.
“We state clearly that we have not been given any money, rather this NWC generated billions of naira from the sale of forms from where we funded our candidates for governorship and state assembly elections in all the states of the federation in addition to funds released to key leaders including NWC and BoT members to prosecute the campaigns in their various areas,” he said.
Mr. Metuh said the NWC is willing and ready to make its account public in line with the Freedom of Information law.
He also said President Goodluck Jonathan was “directly involved” in the decision to disburse the N30 million funds to the NWC as well as BOT members.
Mr. Metuh accused “fifth columnists” of trying to create crisis in the party with a view to afford elected officials an opportunity to defect from the party in line with a recent Supreme Court ruling.
He said the NWC members were running the party under difficult conditions for over a year with no help from any quarters.
“Where were these people when we lacked funds to run the party for over one year. We could not even buy newspapers or diesel for our generators,” he said.
Crisis over
PDP spokesperson however, said the crisis generated over the use of campaign funds is over following a meeting of all parties concerned Sunday.
He said the meeting, which President Jonathan chaired, succeeded in finding an amicable solution to the problem.
“We are happy to announce that the leader of our party, President Jonathan, the PDP governors and other key stakeholders of our party including governors and legislators-elect are deeply concerned about this development and have intervened to ensure the desired stability in our party,” he said.
Mr. Metuh said with the crisis over, the party is now poised to reclaim the presidency in 2019 and that there are no more talks of any resignation of NWC members.
“There is no crisis in the national leadership of the PDP. The National Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu is duly elected and is fully in control of the administration of the party until the expiration of its tenure in March 2016 in line with the provisions of the constitution of our great party.
“We are not only in office, we are in power,” he said.
Mr. Metuh urged all PDP members across the country to close ranks and work together with their leaders at all levels and make themselves partners in progress in the rebuilding the party.
“What we need now is to eschew all personal and private agenda and join forces to reinvent our party for the task ahead,” he said.

The monies, which were reportedly paid out of the party’s Zenith Bank account number ending with 6016, showed that the party’s national chairman, Adamu Muazu, was paid N100 million through Julius Berger PLC while the deputy chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, received N40 million.

The documents provided by the insiders further revealed that the PDP’s national secretary, Adewale Oladipo, got N30 million. Other members who got N30 million each include the PDP national treasurer, Buhari Bala; national financial secretary, Bolaji Akpan Anani; national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh; national auditor, Adeyanju Fatai; national organizing secretary, Abubakar Mustapha, national women leader, Kema Chikwe; national Legal adviser, Victor Yusuf Kwon among others.

Aside the scandalous payments, another set of documents shows that the PDP also compelled delegates to its annual convention to pay N10,000 each into the private accounts of Marufi Nigeria Limited. One of the Presidency sources described the company as a fraudulent front linked to a top member of the NWC.

PDP is in trouble.....now its very clear to me

The way Metuh had been courting the press to help push their case is evidence enough. That he could even speak to sahara reporters is a confirmation that all isn't well at wadata house.

Their elders advised them but they pushed them out. Now they're running from pillar to post. Una never start grin

I wish them Goodluck anyway

cheesy cheesy

When they were advised to stop the useless hate campaigns and focus on issues instead, did they listen? Now they've realised they only helped publicise GMB.

I like this part so much grin

Mr. Metuh said, “In 2003 President Obasanjo ran
against Odumegwu Ojukwu, while late President
Yar’adua also ran against him in 2007.

“If the PDP had run its campaign based on hate
speech against the Ikemba Nnewi, he would have
won by a landslide in the whole of the South East,”
he said.

Even OBJ knew better than to indulge in a dumb hate campaign that was sure to backfire in Africa where some values of life and Human dignity are cherished. Na now Metuh fit speak up. Imagine a sitting governor using his diaper wearing mother to campaign against GMB?? How low can a man go for power?? Anyway, the world now knows his family's intimate secret cheesy

Pls continue your hate campaigns abeg..... its worked perfectly. cheesy

Forget the local dunces..... their noise on NL mean little actually. Its evident they're incapable of independent rational thought.

If they could think, they would have realised a decent African with deep cultural values will NEVER be swayed by the campaign manager below

Voter: what will your candidate do about power:

Campaign manager: do you know our opponent wears diapers like my mother?

How can a thinking man expect votes from such campaign? Then they have the nerve to accuse SW of sabotage?
