A scan will narrow down the faulty components. Scan get codes, come back with codes.

Hope he reconnected all O2 sensors. Check if the thermostat is present n working.

I suggest he uses the fuel rail n injectors from your old engine.

Most importantly, scan that vehicle.

There is really no point working on assumptions. A detailed scan will narrow down the fault codes. once you have the fault/dtc , your issues will be 80% solved. So scan the car and come back here with the codes

Get someone who can analyse datastreams as the vehicle might not throw codes.
Chech oxygen sensor, catalyst converter, MAF, coolant temp sensor, large vacuum leak, check timing. Please check if that engine is a sludged engine. Lastly, check accessory drive pulleys for proper installation.
